Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr are not among the teams competing in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. However, with the desire to increase the attractiveness of the tournament, which starts on June 15, FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently expressed hope that the Portuguese superstar will participate. As he suggested, Ronaldo should take advantage of the special transfer window created in June to sign a short-term contract with one of the teams that have qualified to participate. After all, his contract with Al-Nassr expires at the end of this month.
Saudi Arabia’s only club, Al-Hilal, is one option, and the fact that the Persian Gulf country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has become an official partner of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has further increased the possibility of Ronaldo coming to the United States this summer.
However, in a statement just released by Ronaldo, he will not try to be part of the tournament. "The decision has been made by me. I will not participate in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025," the 40-year-old superstar said. "I have received many offers, and there have been discussions. But I decided to say no, after thinking about short-term, medium-term and long-term plans. At this age you cannot try to do everything."
In the 2024/25 season, despite his age, Ronaldo scored 35 goals in 41 matches for Al-Nassr. With his recent goal against Germany, he also increased his national team scoring record to 137, while helping Portugal advance to the final of the 2024/25 Nations League.
