The unique shape of the "old oil tree" attracts tourists.

According to locals, the oil tree is approximately 800 years old. Despite its age, the ancient tree remains lush and healthy, making it a distinctive tourist attraction in the Tra Vinh area. Seen from afar, the tree stands out with its wide, umbrella-like canopy providing shade, which is why locals affectionately call it the "umbrella oil tree."

The oil palm tree is still green, healthy, and full of lush branches and leaves.

Besides its massive size, the Dipterocarpus alatus tree is also impressive with its tightly twisted wood grain from the base to the trunk and large branches, creating a bizarre shape. Many sections of the trunk are gnarled and covered in moss over the years, possessing an ancient beauty. Even more remarkable, surrounding the base of the tree are clusters of enormous roots, winding across the ground like giant pythons or dragons coiled around the tree. Some sections of the roots protrude to resemble turtle shells or other animals, captivating viewers.

Tourists gathered around the "old oil tree" to take photos, hoping for good fortune.

Many people touch the tree trunk to pray for good luck.

The altar is located under the oil palm tree.

The shrine of Ông Tà is located under the shade of an oil tree.

Every day, many groups of tourists come to visit and take photos at the oil tree, admiring the beauty created by nature. Everyone is surprised by the tree's unusual appearance, which would be unimaginable if seen only on social media.

Since ancient times, people have believed that trees hundreds of years old are the dwelling places of deities, and they are cherished and revered by the people. This is also true of this Dipterocarpus tree; at its base, among its magnificent roots, is a small shrine. Right under the tree's shade, there is a small temple dedicated to Ông Tà (the local deity), where locals and visitors regularly light incense and pray for peace, health, and good fortune.

It would take six or seven adult arm spans to encircle an entire oil palm tree.

Day after day, the Dipterocarpus tree silently provides shade and welcomes visitors from all over. More than just a rare ancient tree, the Dipterocarpus tree is also a cultural symbol in the overall picture of the green city of Vinh Long today.
