The Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department has recently sent a document to the Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department ( Ministry of Public Security ) regarding the phenomenon of individuals using the name of the Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department to commit online fraud and embezzle money.

Specifically, according to the Vietnam Register, recently, the Department's bank account received sums ranging from 10,000 to 23,000 VND transferred from individual accounts, most of which did not specify the purpose of the transfer.

Based on the license plate information recorded in the money transfer details of some vehicle owners, the Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department contacted several vehicle owners and learned that: A group of individuals were calling vehicle owners, informing them that from October 1, 2024, the Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department would change the inspection sticker design and requesting that vehicle owners who wanted the new sticker pay 10,000 VND per sticker plus a shipping fee of 23,000 VND to the Department's account.

Simultaneously, this group instructs vehicle owners to access a fake link impersonating the Vietnam Registering Authority to declare personal information for the purpose of exchanging vehicle registration stickers. When vehicle owners access the aforementioned fake link, they risk being scammed and having their money stolen.

To prevent the above situation, the Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department has issued a notice to motor vehicle inspection units, warning vehicle owners in their respective areas of management.

The Vietnam Registering and Inspection Department affirms that there is no requirement to change inspection stickers, nor has it requested or notified vehicle owners to transfer money to perform the inspection sticker change service.

Vehicle owners should absolutely not transfer money via calls or messages from unknown phone numbers (not publicly listed by the Vietnam Registering Authority). Furthermore, they should not access any fake links impersonating the Vietnam Registering Authority.
