The ceremony to invite the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc into Da Bao tower - in the grounds of Viet Nam Quoc Tu (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City) was held at 8:00 a.m. this morning.
After 5 days of enshrining the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc on the ground floor of Viet Nam Quoc Tu, thousands of groups came to pay homage, with some days the number of worshipers reaching 60,000 people. The organizing committee has adjusted the opening hours from 6:30 am, through noon, and stops accepting visitors at 7 pm every day.
Venerable Thich Tam Hai, Head of the Information and Communications Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City, said that although the number of people coming to worship the heart relic was large, thanks to the appropriate flow of people, along with the regulation of the distribution of online registration groups spread out over time, the flow of people was continuous, combined with the smooth coordination between the participating departments and forces, so everything was stable.
In addition, security forces of the Ministry of Public Security , City Police, Traffic Police, volunteers... also participated in supporting and ensuring security and order for people to come and worship the immortal heart relic.
Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc immolated himself on June 11, 1963 at the intersection of Le Van Duyet and Phan Dinh Phung (Saigon), now the intersection of Cach Mang Thang Tam - Nguyen Dinh Chieu (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), leaving behind an immortal heart relic, a symbol of the spirit of compassion and wisdom of Buddhism and the tradition of the Vietnamese people.
His heart was then brought back to Xa Loi Pagoda (District 3) for worship, then transferred to Viet Nam Quoc Tu, then deposited in the French Bank in Saigon. Now, the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc is preserved in the State Bank - Southern branch according to the handover document - deposited at 11:00 am on April 26, 1991.
On the afternoon of May 5, 2025, when all conditions were met, the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc was brought to Vietnam National Temple and for the first time organized for people to worship.
The Da Bao Pagoda is 63 m high and has 13 floors. This is a religious structure commemorating the non-violent struggle for religious equality of Buddhism that took place in 1963. The 13-storey pagoda symbolizes the spirit of service and unity of 13 organizations, associations and sects participating in the non-violent struggle. After completion, the pagoda will be a place to display documents about this historic struggle.
