Artist Ly Bao Dien is nearly 80 years old.

According to Xinhua , in recent years, many audiences have been curious about the current life of the 79-year-old actor, but he refuses to attend events or give interviews. Occasionally, the artist appears for a few dozen seconds in a short video by his son - actor Ly Uc. The son revealed that every time he wanted to record a video, it took him a whole session to convince his father. Ly Bao Dien is always frugal with words, only thanking the audience. Once, the actor said: "Everyone is interested in Ly Uc, that's enough for this old man, you just need to ask a question."

Li Baotian is immersed in painting, constantly experimenting with forms of artistic expression, thereby finding new feelings. The artist himself commented that his paintings and calligraphy are wild. In 2022, he released the book Self-portrait: Li Baotian , which prints his paintings and experiences in music , cinema, and thoughts on life.

In the work, the actor revealed his lonely and arrogant personality when he was young. The first time he knew the feeling of a small life was when his father passed away. His father's death made Ly Bao Dien force himself into work, building a career to comfort his father's soul. Ly Bao Dien's younger brother also passed away early, he told himself to live his life for his brother.

"Is it possible that God took away two people I loved so much just to let me achieve success? If that's true, what level of success must I achieve to repay their sacrifice?", wrote Ly Bao Dien.

The artist was once extremely confused by such questions, but no one gave him answers. He sought answers in his drawings, sculptures, and characters on film. "As long as I am alive, I cannot stop. God knows and the souls of my relatives know too. I am small and ordinary but I try my best," the actor's book reads.

The artist appreciates the quote by Jean Cocteau - French novelist and playwright: "Each of us is a rough block of marble, nature uses hammers and chisels to continuously forge us. We must voluntarily endure and cooperate with that forging, without groaning or screaming. Because nature wants to create you, give you achievements, eliminate the excess, and keep everything that art needs."

He said time is a knife, carving wrinkles on people's faces. Fate is also a knife, leaving wounds in people's hearts. But he accepts everything with a trembling heart, repaying everything.

Newsweek magazine said that Ly Bao Dien belongs to the group of artists "known by everyone but no one has heard from them". He lives according to his heart, lives simply with his wife, and is friends with books, sculpture, and painting. His wife is Ho Anh, who used to work at the Central Academy of Drama. The couple has two children, a boy and a girl, who live separately and often visit their parents.

The artist said he cooks his own meals and refuses drinking parties because he feels he doesn't have enough time for his passions. Having read many books, he believes that Lu Xun is the most outstanding figure in Chinese literature. According to Ly Bao Dien, Lu Xun's position in the world is not prominent, but that is because he accepts sacrifices and uses his pen to inspire many Chinese people. The actor commented: "Lu Xun dares to confront everyone, never compromises, never surrenders. He is steadfast in what he believes to be the truth, and not only that, he can live a free life."

Li Baotian is a veteran Chinese screen artist, creating classic images in the films Divine Doctor Xi Lai Le, Prime Minister Liu the Hunchback , Ju Dou, Say Whatever You Want, Shanghai Triad. Although famous, Li Baotian rarely attends events, rarely accepts interviews and maintains the principle of not advertising any products.

In 2003, when he created a "fever" with his role as a doctor in Divine Doctor Hy Lai Lac , many companies invited him to advertise medicine, some offered five million yuan (17.6 billion VND), but the actor refused. He told BTV : "They invited me to advertise medicine because of Hy Lai Lac's image, if I accept it, it will affect my character and film. Moreover, I don't use that medicine, how can I tell consumers how effective this medicine is. What if the medicine harms people?"

When asked why he doesn't do other commercials to earn more income and improve his family's life, he said: "I live very well, I am free and peaceful. That's enough. I don't need anything more."
