On the afternoon of August 19th, Dong Anh General Hospital ( Hanoi ) announced that its doctors had successfully performed surgery to save the life of a man suffering from multiple critical injuries.
A 42-year-old male patient from Hanoi was admitted to the Emergency Department of Dong Anh General Hospital with multiple injuries. These included two neck wounds with severed neck muscles causing significant bleeding, and one penetrating wound to the left chest that severed intercostal muscles, puncturing the lung and pericardium. At this time, the patient was in critical condition, cyanotic throughout the body, experiencing difficulty breathing, and respiratory failure with a blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) of 78%.
Recognizing this as a very serious case with the patient's life in danger, the emergency team at Dong Anh General Hospital issued a hospital-wide "red alert," conducted interdisciplinary and inter-hospital consultations, and immediately transferred the patient to the operating room. Simultaneously, the hospital immediately contacted and invited doctors from Saint Paul Hospital to provide assistance.
After more than two hours of surgery, the patient's life was saved, bleeding stopped, hemodynamics stabilized, and respiration stabilized. The patient was then transferred to Saint Paul General Hospital for further treatment.
Dr. Do Duc Thang, from the Thoracic Surgery Department (Xanh Pon Hospital), who participated in the surgical team at Dong Anh General Hospital, said that with the patient's injuries, if not treated promptly at the lower-level facility and transferred directly to a higher-level hospital, there would be a high risk of death during transport.
