The historical site and scenic area of the Ba Trieu Uprising, including Nua Mountain, Nua Temple, and Am Tien, is a national-level historical site with potential and advantages for Trieu Son district to promote tourism development, especially cultural, spiritual, resort, and ecological tourism.

Nua Mountain, Nua Temple, and Am Tien Shrine, located in Nua town (Trieu Son district), commemorate the uprising led by Lady Trieu and the heroic female general, a site of pride and reverence for the people of Thanh Hoa province in particular and the entire country in general. In 2009, this site was classified as a national historical and scenic site. It is not only known as the place where Lady Trieu launched her rebellion, but also as one of Vietnam's most sacred sites. Every year, from the 9th to the 20th of January, the Nua Temple - Am Tien Festival takes place to remember the immense contributions of Lady Trieu, her generals, and the Vietnamese people in repelling the invading Eastern Wu army.
Upon arriving at the historical site and scenic spot of the Ba Trieu Uprising, after offering incense at Nua Temple, visitors will move on to Am Tien to admire the scenery and immerse themselves in the pristine and picturesque natural landscape, visiting Am Tien Pagoda and Tu Nua Temple, which worship a Taoist master from the Tran-Ho dynasty. Due to time and historical events, Am Tien Pagoda and Tu Nua Temple had become ruins. In the 1980s, Am Tien Pagoda and Tu Nua Temple were restored and renovated by local people and philanthropists who contributed their labor and resources.
Currently, the historical site and scenic spot of the Ba Trieu Uprising has been renovated to meet the aspirations of the people. This includes the entrance gate of Nua Temple, the water supply system, fire prevention and fighting system, the ceremonial hall, and kiosks serving the needs of tourists, all of which have been invested in and built to a high standard.
The natural beauty, sacred atmosphere, and numerous mystical stories passed down through generations have made the historical site of the Ba Trieu Uprising even more attractive. In the first two months of 2025, this site welcomed approximately 35,000 visitors who came to sightsee, pray for blessings, and seek peace.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong from Vinh Tien commune (Vinh Loc district), a tourist visiting the historical site and scenic spot of the Ba Trieu uprising, said: “The scenery at the site is very beautiful, clean, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, and security and order are well-maintained. The site also has ample parking and convenient transportation. All members of my family are satisfied with our visit here.”
Despite efforts to restore and preserve it, the national historical site of the Ba Trieu Uprising has not yet fully exploited its potential and advantages to attract tourists. To elevate the site's status, on December 27, 2024, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee approved the Plan for Conservation, Restoration, and Development of the National Historical Site of the Ba Trieu Uprising, including Nua Mountain, Nua Temple, and Am Tien, for the period 2025-2035, with a vision to 2045. Accordingly, the plan will develop a system of accommodation, resorts, and local cultural tourism villages to maximize the advantages of the natural landscape and meet the needs of domestic and international tourists. It will also invest in the construction of large-scale key cultural projects, applying modern technology to bring the historical and cultural traditions of Thanh Hoa province to visitors. Constructing a cable car line connecting the foot of Am Tien mountain to its summit will create a cultural landscape axis, providing visitors with a space to stop and admire the beauty of Nua mountain as well as experience folk culture...
This decision is considered an important prerequisite for exploiting the potential and advantages, developing various types of tourism, creating jobs, and increasing income for the people living around the historical site.
According to Le Van Tuan, Secretary of the Trieu Son District Party Committee, Trieu Son strives to transform the historical site and national scenic spot of the Ba Trieu Uprising into a center for tourism, culture, and spirituality. To realize this goal, the district has actively attracted investors to develop the potential and advantages of the area. Currently, Trieu Son district has secured an investment commitment from Thanh Hoa Cable Car and Tourism Service Company Limited. The investor has committed to investing in projects including a commercial service area and the Am Tien cable car, a cultural landscape axis within the Am Tien complex, and a service and tourism area with an investment scale of nearly 400 hectares.
In the coming period, the district will continue to expand programs to introduce and promote the value of historical sites and local tourism potential through mass media. It will also accelerate efforts to attract investment in infrastructure development to support tourism. Furthermore, it will strengthen the management, preservation, and promotion of historical sites to leverage their advantages for developing various types of tourism. Emphasis will be placed on training and improving human resources; encouraging and facilitating the participation and benefits of local communities in tourism development; and expanding and connecting tours and routes to historical sites with major domestic tours and routes, so that these sites become national-level destinations.
