On April 21st, the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports inaugurated the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2026 with the theme "Books - Knowledge - Aspiration for National Development" at the Hanoi Cultural and Library Center (47 Ba Trieu Street, Cua Nam Ward).

In his opening remarks, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Xuan Tai emphasized that organizing Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day not only aims to honor the value of books, affirm the position and role of books in social life, encourage reading in the community, build a favorable reading environment, and form reading habits in families, schools, agencies, units, and residential communities. It is also an opportunity to honor those involved in writing, publishing, printing, and distributing books, the library staff, and the numerous book-loving readers nationwide.

According to Mr. Pham Xuan Tai, in response to the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2026, nearly 100 communes and wards in Hanoi have successfully organized activities such as visual propaganda; book exhibitions; thematic talks; author-work-reader interactions; book review competitions; book-themed painting contests; and themed book arrangements... Notably, the Hanoi Cultural and Library Center organized attractive and meaningful activities.
"These activities have attracted a large number of officials, students, and citizens to participate, creating a positive effect and contributing to spreading a love of books and arousing interest in reading in the community," affirmed the Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports.
To ensure that the 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2026 is organized in a practical, effective, and far-reaching manner, Mr. Pham Xuan Tai suggested that the Hanoi Cultural and Library Center and the entire system of grassroots libraries continue to organize activities with practical content, diverse and creative forms, suitable for each target group, especially young people, students, and university students; contributing to creating a clear change in awareness and actions regarding the role of books and reading culture.

Furthermore, units and localities should effectively promote the role of the public library system in preserving and disseminating knowledge and serving the lifelong learning needs of the people; strengthen professional guidance for grassroots libraries; promote book circulation, mobile library services, and organize activities for book exchange, introduction, and sharing of good models and effective practices; at the same time, strengthen coordination between the cultural sector and the education sector, political and social organizations, agencies, units, schools, and localities in creating a healthy and favorable reading environment; gradually form a reading habit in families, schools, and communities; and link the development of reading culture with building elegant and civilized Hanoi citizens.

The 5th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2026, themed “Books - Knowledge - Aspiration for National Development,” was a vibrant event featuring numerous activities such as book displays, exhibitions, and artistic book arrangements; a thematic talk on “Books – A Bridge Connecting the Past and the Present” with the participation of Lieutenant General and Hero of the People's Armed Forces Pham Tuan; author-work interactions; and booths showcasing newly released publications.
