On the afternoon of May 20th, the Da Nang Center for Research, Training in Integrated Circuit Design and Artificial Intelligence (DSAC Center - Da Nang City Department of Science and Technology) organized a meeting and dialogue between the city's People's Committee leaders and the semiconductor and artificial intelligence business community in the area.

The event attracted 90 delegates, including leaders of the Da Nang City People's Committee, representatives from relevant departments and agencies, representatives from universities, colleges, research institutes, businesses, and experts in the fields of semiconductor microchips, artificial intelligence (AI), high technology, and green technology.

At the conference, businesses, institutes, and universities offered suggestions to strengthen the "three-way" linkage in promoting the semiconductor and artificial intelligence ecosystem, as well as proposing solutions to overcome difficulties for businesses and start-ups.

According to Mr. Le Hoang Phuc, representative of VSAP LAB, Da Nang should develop its semiconductor industry in a value-added direction, focusing on advanced chip design and packaging. Especially after the merger, with ample room for expansion, the city has a significant advantage in attracting major packaging companies and investment in semiconductors.

In addition, business representatives also proposed that the city develop policies to promote the semiconductor supply chain and link the local semiconductor microchip ecosystem with major electronics companies in the area such as Foxlink, UAC, etc., as these are important customers of semiconductor chip design companies.

Semiconductor and AI companies are eager to access sandbox mechanisms to achieve faster breakthroughs.

"I also hope that the government will support semiconductor and AI businesses in accessing sandbox mechanisms to test and apply new technologies. For example, Software Park No. 2 could completely become a sandbox space for new technologies such as delivery robots, UAVs/drones, and many other semiconductor and AI products," Mr. Phuc said.

Many semiconductor and AI companies are also complaining about the difficulty in recruiting high-quality personnel in Da Nang. A representative from Ideas2Silicon stated that the company is struggling to recruit local staff.

Recently, the company conducted recruitment simultaneously in both Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. However, the number of applications submitted in Da Nang was very low, while in Ho Chi Minh City, the opposite was true, with many applications and quick recruitment.

"I hope the DSAC Center will become a bridge between training institutions and businesses, allowing supply and demand to meet. Businesses will also play a supporting role, working together with other businesses to train human resources during internships and probationary periods," he said.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Doan Hong Trung (Representative of Delta X Company) suggested that the city should have mechanisms and policies to enable businesses to connect with institutes and universities, jointly training students from their time in school, creating a stable and high-quality workforce for the semiconductor industry.

Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee Ho Quang Buu expressed his desire for businesses to cooperate with the city in developing the semiconductor microchip ecosystem.

Acknowledging the feedback and suggestions from businesses and start-ups, Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, requested the Department of Science and Technology to take the lead and coordinate with relevant units to review the needs for semiconductor labs, computing infrastructure, testing equipment, and research space in order to propose comprehensive investment for the city.

In addition, Mr. Buu emphasized the need to promote cooperation between the "state - schools - businesses"; strengthen international cooperation and leverage technological resources, experts, and partner networks.

“The business community and training institutions continue to work alongside the city through specific cooperation programs, practical problems, pilot models, and products with high commercialization potential. The city is committed to creating the most favorable conditions for innovative ideas to be tested, developed, and mature,” Mr. Buu said.
