This is one of the strategies of Hanoi National University (VNU) in developing high-quality, highly qualified human resources, aiming to implement Resolution 57 of the Central Committee on science , technology, innovation and digital transformation.
Accordingly, the standard training period will be 3 years with 3 semesters per year, instead of 4 years with 2 semesters per year as at present. Students will be given the opportunity to adjust their learning progress and personalize their learning path.
In addition to political theory and general knowledge courses taught in Vietnamese, most of the specialized courses, including the graduation thesis, will be taught entirely in English. This is to equip students with the ability to work in an international environment.

VNU also focuses on promoting students' early exposure to scientific research by participating in groups led by lecturers, helping to form research thinking and long-term academic development orientation.
To shorten the program to 3 years, Hanoi National University will apply digital technology, especially artificial intelligence, to the teaching and learning process. Learning methods include: direct, online, group work, supervised self-study or completely personalized according to each student's ability.
Students with outstanding abilities can graduate with a bachelor's degree after 2.5 years and transfer directly to a doctoral degree.
Hanoi National University informed that this strategy was consulted with the Standing Committee of the Science and Training Council. Council members agreed that VNU should pioneer in applying modern training models from prestigious universities around the world. Teaching methods need to be innovated in the direction of diversification and individualization, especially for students with outstanding abilities and potential for academic development.
Previously, Hanoi National University had a high school talent incubation program (VNU 12+) to attract excellent students and create a source for the field of basic science. Students were oriented to their careers and scientific research, and studied some subjects in advance, thereby shortening the university program.
Many universities around the world have similar models. For example, at Tsinghua University in China, exceptional talents can study from the age of 13-14, graduate from university at 16-18, and graduate with a doctorate at 20.
Hanoi National University currently has 12 member schools, with one of the largest training scales in the country.
