June 21 this year marks the 10th anniversary of the first International Yoga Day (2015) after the United Nations General Assembly Resolution was unanimously adopted with the co-sponsorship of Vietnam. By declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day, the United Nations General Assembly also recognized that Yoga provides a holistic approach to physical and mental health and that the widespread dissemination of the benefits of practicing Yoga would benefit the health of people worldwide. Over the past decade, Yoga has transcended national, cultural and linguistic boundaries to become a global activity.

The theme of this year’s International Yoga Day is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, reflecting the fact that personal health and planetary health are inseparable. In addition to the physical benefits of Yoga for the human body, breathing and meditation techniques help to cultivate inner peace, balance and awareness, contributing to the connection between body and mind, between thoughts and actions, thereby helping us to live in harmony with others as well as with nature. This state of peace and heightened awareness promotes a sustainable lifestyle and future for the entire planet.

In Vietnam, promotional events and Yoga protocol demonstrations are held at more than 40 locations across Vietnam. In Hanoi alone, a large-scale demonstration for Yoga lovers was held at Quan Ngua Sports Palace, with the participation of Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya, diplomats , public figures, Yoga federation members, Yoga clubs and individuals.
On this occasion, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a letter to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , expressing his appreciation for Vietnam's support and contributions in promoting Yoga over the past decade, and expressing his gratitude for Vietnam's acceptance and development of Yoga as a common heritage of humanity.
