According to Ambassador Hung Ba, the Vietnamese and Chinese armies in the past fought against imperialism and colonialism, fought for independence and national liberation; today they build and protect their homeland, maintain political security, seek happiness for the people, and serve the interests of humanity.
"The two countries' armies have always been an important pillar in developing relations between the two parties and two countries, playing an important role in consolidating and deepening mutual trust in politics, security and strategy between the two sides," he said.
The Ambassador proposed that, in the new situation, the two countries' armies should take the lead in implementing the strategic consensus reached by the two sides' top leaders, focusing on enhancing communication and strategic cooperation, promoting information exchange, joint exercises and training, and extensive cooperation in political education and personnel training. The 8th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange will take place in April; this exchange and cooperation mechanism over the past 10 years has contributed to building the two countries' most peaceful, stable, economically developed, and busiest border in the world.
"We hope that the two sides will continue to summarize experiences and make border defense friendship exchanges more practical and better according to the requirements of the two countries' senior leaders, contributing to deepening and elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and building a China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future of strategic significance," said Ambassador Hung Ba.
In an interview with the People's Army newspaper, Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh assessed the Dien Bien Phu victory as a political and military victory under the correct and wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by the great President Ho Chi Minh; demonstrating the spirit of bravery, self-sacrifice in fighting and heroic sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people; admired and praised by peace-loving people around the world.
According to the Ambassador, the Dien Bien Phu victory, a great victory of the Vietnamese army and people, had an important contribution from the strength of solidarity and the special fighting alliance between Vietnam and Laos. During the resistance war against France, the Lao army and people fought side by side with the Vietnamese army and people, changing the situation on the battlefields of our two countries. The victories on the Lao battlefield in Central and Lower Laos caused heavy losses to the enemy, creating favorable conditions for destroying the enemy on the battlefields in Vietnam at that time, especially the historic strategic battle of Dien Bien Phu.
"It can be said that the Dien Bien Phu victory is also a victory of solidarity and the special fighting alliance between Vietnam and Laos," said Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh.
According to her, the Dien Bien Phu victory created the fundamental basis for the signing of the Geneva Agreement on ending the war, restoring peace in Indochina, and destroying the yoke of French colonialism. At the same time, this was also a great source of encouragement for the armies and peoples of Vietnam and Laos to continue the resistance war, leading the revolutions of the two countries to complete victory in 1975, creating a miracle of victory over colonialists and imperialists. Entering a new period of national construction and defense, the two Parties, two States, armies and peoples continue to work together to preserve and foster the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, which is increasingly developing deeply and extensively in all fields, for the prosperity of each country, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
"In the context of the rapidly changing and complex world and regional situation, the historical lesson of the loyal and close-knit relationship between Vietnam and Laos remains valuable. More than ever, the unique special solidarity between our two countries and peoples must be nurtured to become increasingly deeper, more practical and effective," Ambassador Khamphao Ernthavanh emphasized.
