Dak Nong receives UNESCO Global Geopark title

On the evening of December 26, in Gia Nghia city, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province held a ceremony to receive the title of UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark for the second time. This event marked an important milestone for the locality in preserving and promoting heritage values associated with sustainable development.

With an area of 4,760 km², spanning 6 districts and cities, there are 65 geological and geomorphological heritage sites, including a system of nearly 50 caves with a total length of more than 10,000 m, craters, waterfalls... Dak Nong Geopark is a place that preserves typical values of biodiversity, many unique cultural, geological, natural features as well as traces of prehistoric human activities.

With the development orientation of "Land of Melodies", Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark has affirmed its position on the global heritage map, contributing to honoring the unique geological, cultural and ecological values of the Central Highlands.

The re-recognition of this noble title is an important milestone, not only helping Dak Nong consolidate its sustainable development strategy but also actively contributing to the realization of the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda set by the United Nations. In particular, it encourages the conservation of natural resources, response to climate change, mitigation of natural disaster risks, and at the same time promotes socio -economic development based on the foundation of harmony with nature and traditional culture.

This is also an important milestone for Dak Nong in implementing Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW of the Politburo on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector. Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee affirmed that receiving the title of Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark for the second time opens up new opportunities for the locality to promote economic development and international cooperation.

Mr. Ho Van Muoi said that participating in the activities of the global geopark network has contributed to raising public awareness of geoparks, gradually improving the position of Dak Nong on the domestic and international tourism map.
