Ensuring clean water supply for urban areas

Son La Water Supply Joint Stock Company has 12 factories and affiliated branches, providing clean water for more than 64,000 households in the province. To ensure clean and safe water, the Company focuses on investing in renovating and upgrading factories, applying new technologies, and digital transformation in water quality management and water supply system control.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Dung, Deputy General Director of Son La Water Supply Joint Stock Company, informed: The Company regularly inspects, maintains and repairs machinery and equipment; periodically coordinates with functional agencies to take water samples for testing, ensuring compliance with standards prescribed by the Ministry of Health . In addition, the Company uses Citywork software to manage and operate the water supply system and monitor customers' water usage index; uses SCADA system to monitor pressure, flow, turbidity, pH, residual chlorine..., detect abnormalities and automatically adjust operations, promptly handle leaks, broken pipes, and reduce water loss. In addition, the Company also locks customers' water meter numbers using smartphones connected to the customer management system, helping to collect statistics, look up data, analyze reports and respond to suggestions more conveniently and quickly.

Rapid urban population growth, climate change causing groundwater scarcity; waste from primary and processed agricultural products are also affecting water quality. The company has zoned, fenced, and cleaned the water source area; periodically inspected and maintained the treatment system, closely monitored the operating process; invested in installing interconnected pipeline networks, installed regulating valves between regions, and promptly and continuously supplemented water for customers when pollution incidents, droughts, or water shortages occur.

The company also invested in installing water transmission and distribution pipelines, such as: HDPE D225 pipe, renovating Km7 pumping station (City Water Supply Enterprise 2); DN225 pipeline from Mai Son Water Supply Enterprise to 19/5 pumping station; HDPE D63 water supply network from Co Long village to Co Tang village (Van Ho commune); HDPE D110 pipeline supplying water to Song Lam Tay Bac Fertilizer Joint Stock Company (Chieng Mung commune). Since the beginning of the year, the company has provided more than 8.2 million m³ of clean, safe water to customers.

The organization of ensuring water supply for customers in the old City area, now including the wards: Chieng Sinh, Chieng An, Chieng Coi and To Hieu, has not changed. Currently, officers and employees of the City Water Supply Enterprise regularly check and evaluate the current status of water sources; assign staff on duty every day to promptly handle and fix problems. Mr. Vu Ngoc Thang, Head of the Operation Team, City Water Supply Enterprise 1, said: The team always proactively monitors, records, operates according to the process, controls water quality, and maintains equipment according to plan. Thanks to that, repair costs are reduced, losses are limited and clean water is continuously supplied to customers.

Mai Son Water Supply Enterprise is managing 6 water supply stations, with a capacity of nearly 7,500 m³/day and night, serving more than 9,000 customers in Mai Son and Chieng Mung communes. Every day, the unit takes samples to test, closely monitors water treatment processes such as sedimentation, filtration, disinfection... and arranges staff on duty 24/24 to promptly handle incidents. At the same time, it develops an environmental sanitation plan before, during and after the rainy and flood season. Since the beginning of the year, the Enterprise has provided more than 1.1 million m3 of clean, safe, and continuous water to customers.

The quality of water and services is increasingly improved, people feel secure in using it. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hao, sub-zone 8, Mai Son commune, shared: Previously, there was often a shortage in the dry season, and poor quality in the rainy season. Since the water supply system was completed, my family has been completely assured of the water source for daily use.

To ensure clean and safe water supply to customers, Son La Water Supply Joint Stock Company continues to strengthen water source control, upgrade treatment systems, and manage quality.
