According to Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan, the World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Region, WHO in Vietnam, and the United Nations Children's Fund said they will provide Vietnam with more than 200,000 emergency doses of the 5-in-1 vaccine to vaccinate children of the prescribed age.
The Ministry of Health prioritizes the allocation of supported vaccines to children in remote and disadvantaged areas where children have difficulty accessing vaccine services. Currently, units are carrying out procedures to receive this support.
The Ministry of Health said that 9 types of vaccines in the Expanded Immunization Program are produced domestically, and currently have run out of DPT vaccine (a booster shot for children aged 18-24 months). However, the shortage of this vaccine is still within the period when children are not yet due for booster shots. Therefore, immediately after implementing the bidding and purchasing of vaccines, there will still be enough DPT vaccine to vaccinate children up to 24 months old. DPT vaccine manufacturers also affirmed that they are always ready to immediately supply this vaccine to the Expanded Immunization Program when there is a decision on bidding and purchasing.
There will be no shortage of 8 other vaccines in the Expanded Basic Immunization Program from July to December. Currently, commune health stations are still vaccinating children normally.
