Rich with grilled mackerel in foil

Mackerel is a familiar fish in the meals of many families in the Central region. With a long, slender body, firm and sweet meat, this fish attracts diners with its diverse ways of preparation, from braising, grilling, frying to steaming.

Among them, “grilled mackerel in foil” is one of the dishes that is loved by both locals and tourists because of its delicious taste, easy to eat and the way of preparation that is both rustic and attractive. After being cleaned, the fish is marinated with traditional spices such as: shallots, garlic, chili, pepper, fish sauce…, some places also add a few slices of pineapple, green onions or lemon leaves to enhance the aroma.

This mixture is spread evenly on the outside and stuffed into the belly of the fish before being wrapped in foil and grilled over hot coals. This method helps the fish retain its sweetness, absorb the spices evenly, and release a characteristic aroma when the foil is opened.

This dish is served with rice paper, raw vegetables and dipping sauce, usually sweet and sour fish sauce or the fish juice secreted in the foil. When enjoying, the diner will take a piece of rice paper, arrange a layer of fresh raw vegetables, pick up a piece of hot fish, roll it up and dip it in the sauce.

The soft sweetness of the fish, combined with fresh vegetables and the rich flavor of fish sauce will create a well-rounded, unforgettable culinary experience. In Da Nang, diners can go to Nhat Uy restaurant (31 Nguyen Huy Tuong, Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district) to enjoy this fish dish.

Here, mackerel is always selected from the freshest batches of the day, with a shiny silver color and a strong body. Each fish is carefully prepared, marinated according to a special recipe with black fungus stuffed in the fish's belly to enhance the flavor without overpowering the natural sweetness. The restaurant also serves leaf noodles (noodles not cut into strands) to eat with the rolls to add novelty and appeal to diners.

Each portion of grilled mackerel in foil ranges from 50,000 to 70,000 VND/depending on size. Nhat Uy restaurant also offers a rich menu with typical dishes of the Central region such as: Quang noodles, Dai Loc pork rolls, cold porridge, rare beef porridge... enough to warm the heart of anyone who stops by.
