Dam Ha: Wind Abstinence Festival and Closing Ceremony of the District's Ethnic Culture and Sports Week in 2025

In the joyful and exciting atmosphere to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) and International Labor Day (May 1), today, May 1, in the mountainous commune of Quang Lam, the People's Committee of Dam Ha district organized the Wind Abstinence Festival of the Dao ethnic group and the closing activities of the Cultural - Sports Week of ethnic groups in Dam Ha district in 2025. Attending were comrade Nghiem Xuan Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; comrades of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, People's Council, leaders of the People's Committee; the District Fatherland Front Committee; leaders of departments, branches, the Fatherland Front and socio -political organizations of the district, communes, towns, along with a large number of people and tourists.

The Wind Abstinence Festival (April 4th of the Lunar calendar) is a traditional festival of the Thanh Phan Dao ethnic group. The Wind Abstinence Festival originates from the custom of avoiding wild animals, natural disasters and praying for a bountiful harvest, prosperity and happiness of the Thanh Phan Dao people. Every year, on the Wind Abstinence Festival (April 4th of the Lunar calendar), no family members will be in the house because the Dao people believe that if there is a human presence, the Wind God will not enter the house.

Comrade Nghiem Xuan Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee visited booths displaying specialty products of the Dao ethnic group in Quang Lam commune.

Therefore, on the 4th day of the 4th lunar month every year, families of the Dao Thanh Phan people will quietly leave home early, according to the belief that when they leave home, the wind god will enter the house and take away the risks and worries of the old year and clean the air, leaving only good things, warmth and prosperity. After days of hard work, the Dao people can relax and confide, sing San Co tunes to each other, discuss the harvest, embroider and go to the market to shop; meet to invite each other to cups of wine of affection...

The Wind Abstinence Festival of the Dao Thanh Phan ethnic group is maintained and organized annually, has been creating a widespread influence; contributing to spreading and promoting the image of the land and people of the homeland of Dam Ha; creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, gradually improving the cultural and spiritual life of the Dao ethnic group and people of other ethnic groups in Dam Ha district.

The Organizing Committee awarded prizes to all units participating in the 2025 District Ethnic Culture and Sports Week.

This year, the Wind Abstinence Festival is part of the activities of the Cultural - Sports Week of ethnic groups in Dam Ha district, with unique cultural activities: Performing arts; culinary competition; display of local products, San Co singing exchange, shopping for local products; participating in folk games; hands-on experiences at Diep Cay waterfall, Ca Nhay waterfall of Quang Lam commune ...

Also here, the Organizing Committee of the Cultural - Sports Week of Dam Ha district concluded and awarded prizes for each competition including: Cultural competition, sports competition, culinary competition and awarded the first prize to the team of Quang Tan commune; second prize to Dam Ha town, third prize to Tan Lap commune, Quang Lam commune and consolation prizes to the remaining units.

The Cultural - Sports Week of ethnic groups in Dam Ha district was successfully organized to introduce and promote to the people and tourists the potentials and strengths of culture, sports and tourism of Dam Ha district; preserve and promote the cultural identity and solidarity of the ethnic people in the district, contributing to the effective implementation of Resolution No. 17 - NQ/TU, dated October 30, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee on "Building and promoting cultural values, human strength of Quang Ninh to become an endogenous resource, a driving force for rapid and sustainable development.
