Syria announced on January 4 that its main international airport in the capital Damascus will resume international flights from January 7, after the Middle Eastern country suspended commercial flights following rebel forces seizing control of the country last month.
"We announce that we will start receiving international flights to and from Damascus International Airport from January 7," said Ashhad al-Salibi, head of the Syrian Civil Aviation and Air Transport Authority.
International aid planes have landed in Syria and domestic flights have also resumed.
Earlier, speaking at a joint press conference in the capital Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Belgian counterpart Bernard Quintin on January 2 highlighted the need for rapid economic , financial and commercial support for Syria's reconstruction.
Foreign Minister Fidan expressed “readiness to do everything in his power on this issue”.
Turkey's foreign minister also called on countries whose citizens are members or have links to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization being held in Syria to take them back.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Quintin said Belgium could help lift sanctions against Damascus, but it would depend on the next steps taken by the Syrian interim government .
