Republicans regain control of Senate, take lead in House race

According to a VNA correspondent in the US, on November 6, US Eastern time, the vote count results of the 2024 general election in this country showed that the Republican Party regained control of the Senate from the Democratic Party.

As of 12 noon (Vietnam time), the Republican Party has won at least 51 votes, officially becoming the party holding the majority of seats in this legislative body.

Earlier, the Governor of the US state of West Virginia, Republican Jim Justice, won the race for the Senate seat representing this state in the Senate.

Jim Justice's victory is crucial to Republicans' efforts to gain control of the upcoming 119th Senate.

The newly elected senators will be sworn in early January 2025, before the inauguration of the 47th president-elect of the United States on January 20, 2025.

Republicans are also leading the race in the House of Representatives, with 169 of the 435 seats, while Democrats have won 124 seats.
