Why should we drink tea during Coc Vu festival?
Coc Vu is the 6th solar term of the 24 solar terms of the year, signaling the beginning of the rainy season and more humid weather. This is the time when it is easy to develop 'low heat' - manifested by fatigue, rashes, insomnia, and illness due to changes in temperature and humidity.
According to feng shui expert Nguyen Song Ha, during Coc Vu season, you should drink refreshing, diuretic teas such as green tea or artichoke tea, chrysanthemum tea, lotus leaf tea... which can help regulate blood circulation and support the elimination of toxins.
The time of Guwu is also the time when tea is harvested at its best. The Chinese have a saying: "Qingming looks at the buds, Guwu looks at the tea". That is, the tea plant in the early spring of Qingming has just sprouted new buds. Tea leaves picked at this time are still small, and the yield is low. At the time of Guwu, the new buds have grown into fresh green leaves, convenient for picking and processing, this type of tea is called "Wu Qian Tea".

Drinking tea properly during the Guwu Festival not only cools the body and brightens the eyes, but also helps ward off evil spirits. If consumed in moderation, tea will stimulate alertness, improve learning efficiency and work productivity. Some studies have shown that tea contains antioxidants - a group of powerful support agents that work to prevent aging agents and protect the cardiovascular system.
According to Dr. Duong Ngoc Van (Medlatec General Hospital), drinking tea regularly will help the body control weight and reduce the accumulation of excess fat. Nowadays, in many weight loss tea products, manufacturers add green tea or other types of tea.
However, although tea is good, you should not use tea instead of water. Instead, you should drink an average of 2-3 cups of tea a day, the dose should not exceed 710ml. When you are hungry, you should not drink a lot of tea because it can easily make your body nauseous, irritable, and dizzy.
Notes when making tea to make it delicious
Not only is tea a traditional drink, when brewed properly, it also retains all its valuable nutrients. Here are some important principles when brewing tea:
+ The water source determines and affects 70% of the tea flavor, so to ensure the best flavor of the tea, you should only use boiled purified water. Avoid using impure, untreated, or alum, salt, or chlorine-contaminated water when making tea.
+ Not all types of tea should be brewed with boiling water at 100 degrees Celsius because it can destroy the flavor and antioxidants in green tea. Using hot water temperature from 80 - 90°C is the appropriate temperature for tea to have a delicate flavor and not be bitter.
+ Rinse the teapot and tea before brewing to clean and awaken the tea aroma. Steep the tea for 1-3 minutes depending on the type, avoid steeping for too long as it will cause bitterness and reduce the medicinal properties. Use a glass, ceramic or earthenware teapot to preserve the original flavor of the tea.
For herbal teas such as chrysanthemum tea, lotus leaf tea, ginger tea... you can boil them directly with boiling water for 5-7 minutes to extract maximum active ingredients.
The steeping time is measured in seconds and will depend on the type of tea being brewed. Oolong tea and black tea need to be steeped for a long time, while green tea will steep faster.
Foods to avoid when drinking tea
Although tea is good for your health, when combined with the wrong foods, it can have the opposite effect. Here are foods that should not be consumed with tea:
+ Iron and calcium: Tea reduces the absorption of these two minerals, so you should not drink tea immediately after eating red meat, seafood or drinking milk.
+ Eggs: Tea contains tannins that can react with the protein in eggs, causing indigestion.
+ Sweets, candies with a lot of sugar: combined with tea increases blood sugar index and affects antioxidant capacity.
+ Medicine: Tea can reduce the effectiveness of some western medicines, so drink at least 1 hour apart from medicine.
