Sharing with reporters, famous singer Le Uyen lives alone on a 2,230m2 plot of land. Except for the house, the entire garden, fish pond and entrance gate were all done by her own hands.
In the middle of the land is a wooden house, surrounded by Le Uyen, several pine trees, 5 maple trees and flowers to create a landscape identical to Da Lat - where she and musician Phuong lived together for many years.
She set aside a corner of the garden to plant bamboo and place some jars to create a Vietnamese countryside scene. A few weeks later, Le Uyen was not satisfied and dug it up and planted it elsewhere. She also used a shovel to dig the soil, mix it and pour in cement to build a gate exactly as she imagined.
"I work hard every day. I do it myself because no one can please me," said the 73-year-old singer.
Le Uyen's house also has a 104m2 fish pond, nearly 4m deep, converted from a swimming pool, with 300 Koi fish. On the pond, she built a small wooden house and raised 8 Japanese dogs.
Spending most of her day gardening, raising fish and taking care of her dog, she still feels like she has a few more hours.
For the past few years, Le Uyen has maintained a healthy lifestyle, waking up at 7am, exercising in the garden, breathing in fresh air, then going to the tea room to meditate for 10 minutes.
The famous singer lives a simple life, not a vegetarian but eats a lot of vegetables and little meat. Many colleagues tease her about her big appetite, "she can eat a whole duck if the ginger fish sauce is good enough".
During the day, if she has time, Le Uyen will take advantage of sewing, mainly designing her own clothes.
In the evening, between two hours of eating, she practices singing for about half an hour. "I sing happily. My house is big, I can sing loudly without disturbing anyone," the famous singer said.
The only unscientific lifestyle, according to her, is irregular sleeping hours. She usually goes to bed at 10pm, but there are many days when she watches Korean dramas until 2-3am the next morning before going to bed.
Le Uyen confessed that at the age of 73, she is still "addicted" to watching movies. Some days, she turns off the computer and goes to sleep at 3am but still feels restless, so she tries to wake up early and work quickly to watch the next episode.
The veteran singer loves Korean historical and romantic films the most. She watched the drama Dong Y 8 times and cried her eyes out. She loves the beauty and acting of actress Han Hyo Joo, and also likes films starring Lee So-Yeon.
"At this age, I do what I like, not bound by any framework," she shared about her hobbies.
In her personal life, Le Uyen has a confidant named Nguyen, who lives a block away from her house. He is gentle, unhurried and humorous. Every time they meet, he sings, writes poems and tells jokes to make her happy. In life, he helps her with things like broken cars, flat tires, broken phone screens, paperwork, bills...
Le Uyen sang loudly "Drinking water by the stream" next to Phuong's altar.
Le Uyen respects the man who gives Phuong absolute respect, taking care of her so she can live in peace and focus on serving her husband's music .
At 73 years old, Le Uyen is still diligently singing Phuong's music, recording unreleased songs, planning to write a memoir and collecting documents to make a film about her late husband.
"Every day, I wake up and feel grateful that I'm still healthy. I listen to my husband's teachings: 'Eat when you're hungry, drink when you're thirsty', very simple. Enjoy what you get during the day," she said.
Le Uyen and Phuong's two daughters are both successful, and their grandchildren are even married. She told them that if she were no longer alive, they would take over and preserve this house as a place filled with memories of their parents.
