Awakening tourism potential in Giao Thien

Majestic natural landscape and people who still preserve many traditional cultural values are important conditions for Giao Thien to develop tourism .

About 18km from Lang Chanh town, Hon Loi Waterfall Scenic Relic Site is an ideal destination for tourists who want to explore when coming to Giao Thien land. There is a natural waterfall about 3.5km long, including 3 main waterfalls: The first waterfall is only 4.5m high but with 3 waterfalls pouring into it, creating a deep, blue lake. The second waterfall is about 100m away and higher. About 20m from the second waterfall is the third waterfall, which is over 10m high. This third waterfall has created a strange sound along with the white foam flowing water, creating a charming landscape painting.

According to the elders in the commune, Hon Loi waterfall is associated with the name of the national hero Le Loi who once took refuge here to nurture his will to fight against the Ming invaders. Currently, in the commune, there are still evidences at the stone fields in Chieng Lan village, Ten Pua temple, Lau stream... Every year, on January 6, the people of Chieng Lan village organize a festival to commemorate the merits of the hero Le Loi, praying for favorable weather and good crops. In addition to the ceremony, there is also a festival with games and performances such as pushing sticks, throwing con, jumping bamboo, dancing cotton trees, and hitting mats. In order to protect and preserve the landscape and environment, promote the development of community ecotourism, and promote the traditional values of the Muong and Thai ethnic groups, on January 30, 2018, the Provincial People's Committee recognized Hon Loi waterfall as a provincial-level scenic relic.

Coming to the scenic relic of Hon Loi waterfall, visitors can not only immerse themselves in the clear blue water but also admire the towering ancient trees, large flat stones stacked naturally and explore the primeval forest with rich vegetation; enjoy typical Thai dishes such as bamboo rice, grilled fish, and bamboo snails, along with the unforgettable taste of wine called "waves, winds" and admire the traditional stilt houses of the ethnic people here.

Secretary of the Chieng Lan village Party cell, Le Phi Nhat, said: The village is mainly inhabited by Thai ethnic people. Currently, about 40% of the households in the village live in traditional stilt houses. With majestic natural landscapes and traditional cultural features, the village welcomes thousands of tourists every year to visit and experience. However, the village has not yet attracted investment from businesses, so the development of tourism in the village has encountered many difficulties. The village is actively promoting the villagers to renovate their houses and protect the environment; and mobilizing families with conditions to invest in developing accommodation and food services.

Along with Hon Loi Waterfall Scenic Relic, Giao Thien Commune also has many majestic and pristine waterfalls such as Khua Luong Waterfall, Chim Phuong Hoang Waterfall, Deo Day Waterfall, Hung Waterfall... with great potential for developing discovery and experience tourism. In addition, Giao Thien Commune people also preserve many cultural values such as costumes, traditional stilt houses, folk songs and dances of the Thai and Muong ethnic groups.

Implementing Resolution No. 06-NQ/HU dated May 6, 2021 of the Lang Chanh District Party Committee on tourism development associated with preserving and promoting the values of national cultural identity in Lang Chanh District for the period of 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030, Giao Thien Commune has promoted the dissemination of the significance of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values associated with tourism development. At the same time, mobilizing people to renovate their houses, creating green, clean and beautiful landscapes; mobilizing all resources to develop traffic infrastructure, creating favorable conditions for tourists to explore Giao Thien land.

Through practical research, it is known that Giao Thien commune has made many efforts to exploit the potential and advantages of the locality to develop tourism, but there has not been a clear change. Every year, the commune only attracts a few thousand visitors to visit and experience; has not attracted investors to provide entertainment, recreation, food and accommodation services; many households want to invest in tourism development but resources are limited...

Secretary of Giao Thien Commune Party Committee Pham Van Thai said: In the coming time, the new commune government will work with the people in the commune to focus on promoting the natural beauty, traditional cultural values and the friendliness and hospitality of the local people. Actively promote and mobilize people to learn how to do tourism while preserving and promoting traditional cultural values. Do a good job of promoting and calling for potential businesses to explore opportunities and cooperate in investing in tourism development. Focus on investing in building transport infrastructure, grassroots cultural institutions; foster and improve the quality of human resources, to awaken the tourism potential of Giao Thien land.
