Director Bui Thac Chuyen received a certificate of merit for his contributions to "Tunnels: Sun in the Dark"

On the afternoon of October 13, the city delegation led by Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, visited and presented a Certificate of Merit from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to Mr. Bui Thac Chuyen - producer, director, and screenwriter of the film "Tunnels: Sun in the Dark" at his private home in Ho Chi Minh City.

Also accompanying the delegation were comrades: Dinh Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports and representatives of the following units: Emulation and Reward Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association... Actors Thai Hoa and Ho Thu Anh - two main actors in the film Tunnels: Sun in the Dark were also present at the ceremony.

According to Decision No. 753/QD-UBND dated August 19, 2025 of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, a Certificate of Merit was awarded to Mr. Bui Thac Chuyen - producer, director, and screenwriter of the film Tunnels: Sun in the Dark for his outstanding achievements in literary and artistic activities on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Speaking at the ceremony, comrade Nguyen Van Dung thanked director Bui Thac Chuyen for his contributions to the literature and arts of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the country in general through his cinematographic works.

Comrade Nguyen Van Dung also hopes that director Bui Thac Chuyen will continue to produce works such as Tunnels: Sun in the Dark so that the young generation of the city in particular and Vietnam in general can have more access to history and national traditions.

Previously, in her introductory speech, People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy also affirmed that Tunnels: Sun in the Dark was released on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South - National Reunification Day, and was warmly received by the audience and highly appreciated by experts.

Ho Chi Minh City has made contributions in both the production and post-production processes. In particular, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also directed agencies to closely coordinate with the film crew, producers, and distributors to spread the film more strongly to the public.

Speaking when receiving this special honor, director Bui Thac Chuyen shared that he was just one member of a film crew consisting of many people who put their efforts and heart into making the work. He only represented the film crew to receive the Certificate of Merit today.

Right from the first days, the film crew received attention, encouragement, support and enthusiastic help from the city so that the film could be made.

This was a very difficult film, no one had ever filmed it before and the crew had to find every way to be able to film it. There were even times when the crew did not know how to film it.

Director Bui Thac Chuyen also hopes that in the future there will be more films about revolutionary war so that people can better understand the heroic history of the nation.
