Director Christopher Landon took over the reins of the latest installment of the Scream franchise after Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who directed the sixth installment , left. The sixth installment was released in early March and grossed $169 million worldwide (according to Box Office Mojo) against a budget of just over $33 million.
Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett immediately took on another project for Universal after leaving Scream , but this project is being affected by the Hollywood strike.
