On October 10, the World Customs Organization (WCO) 2023 Technology Conference and Exhibition, coordinated by the General Department of Vietnam Customs and the WCO, officially opened in Hanoi.
The 2023 Technology Conference and Exhibition with the theme “Welcoming the digital era: Applying technology, promoting innovation and nurturing the next generation of professional customs officers” will take place from October 10 to 12, 2023.
Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that this event took place on a very special occasion, the 69th anniversary of the liberation of the Capital and also Vietnam's National Digital Transformation Day, aiming to raise awareness of the whole society about digital transformation, promoting the participation of the entire political system and people to ensure the successful implementation of digital transformation tasks.
The theme of the Conference is "Welcoming the digital era, applying technology, promoting innovation and nurturing the next generation of professional customs officers" demonstrating timely grasp of the general trend of the world, in line with the development priorities of the Vietnam Customs sector.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang highly appreciates the close coordination of the WCO, the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance and relevant agencies in organizing this important event.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, during its 70 years of development, the WCO has played an important role in promoting international cooperation in the customs sector. The Vietnam Customs sector has played an important role in supporting the healthy development of the economy, facilitating trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between countries; ensuring social order and safety, and enhancing national competitiveness.
Therefore, Customs must be one of the emerging sectors in applying science and technology to contribute to digital transformation. To do this, it is necessary to have human resources that meet the requirements of the task.

In the coming time, Vietnam will continue to promote its proactive, positive and responsible role to promote international cooperation on customs in a comprehensive, extensive and effective manner.
At the same time, promote the process of localizing international commitments; continue to train human resources to contribute to the successful implementation of Digital Customs, Smart Customs, Green Customs in Vietnam, contributing to the growth of world Customs.
At the Conference, Director General of the General Department of Customs Nguyen Van Can said that under the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam Customs is carrying out extensive digital transformation towards building a standardized, modern, and smart Customs, and by 2030, it will have the same level as developed countries in the world.
Currently, Vietnam Customs is implementing the connection of the National Single Window with ministries and branches; connecting the ASEAN Single Window with members in the region; connecting with Customs agencies of countries sharing the same border and Customs agencies of other countries in the world in the direction of Digital Customs, Smart Customs, Green Customs as recommended by the WCO and directed by the Government.
