Aiming to welcome more than 10.6 million tourists

In 2024, Kien Giang tourism will welcome over 9.8 million visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching VND25,000 billion. At the same time, the province's tourism industry aims to welcome over 10.6 million visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching VND28,000 billion in 2025.

On the afternoon of February 6, Kien Giang Department of Tourism held a conference to summarize the tourism industry in 2024 and deploy directions and tasks for 2025.

In 2024, tourism activities in Kien Giang province will continue to recover and develop. Propaganda and dissemination of laws will be carried out regularly, combined with inspections and checks, promptly reminding and strictly handling violations, helping to raise awareness of law compliance in tourism business.

Kien Giang also effectively coordinates with agencies and units to participate in tourism promotion programs in key domestic and foreign markets. Cultural, sports and tourism events on the occasion of major national and provincial holidays are also well organized, introducing tourism potential to visitors.

The accommodation system meets the needs of domestic and foreign tourists. Tourism activities have changed positively, the quality of services is increasingly improved. Many businesses have recovered quickly and met the needs of tourists.

In 2024, Kien Giang tourism welcomed over 9.8 million visitors, an increase of 15.6% over the same period. Total tourism revenue reached 25,000 billion VND (leading the Mekong Delta region and in the TOP 10 nationwide). In 2025, Kien Giang tourism industry aims to welcome over 10.6 million visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching 28,000 billion VND.

Speaking at the conference, Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism, Bui Quoc Thai, said that besides the achieved results, the local tourism industry still faces many difficulties. The recovery rate is still slow, prices are increasing (especially air tickets). Infrastructure connecting tourist areas has not been properly invested, the construction of tours, routes and tourism products has not met the requirements.

The quality of tourism human resources is not high, lacking high-quality human resources, reducing competitiveness compared to other destinations. Tourism promotion and advertising is still limited, especially abroad. The coordination of state management of tourism between sectors and localities is not tight, and the efficiency is not high.

At the conference, delegates focused on in-depth assessment of difficulties and limitations, especially the unstable number of visitors, to find out the causes. From there, they proposed appropriate tasks and solutions to develop the tourism industry better in the coming time.

Delegates also proposed important solutions such as training human resources, developing unique tourism products, and enhancing coordination between the government and businesses. Effective implementation of these solutions will contribute to promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam’s tourism industry in the future.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho emphasized that in 2024, Kien Giang tourism industry has made efforts to overcome difficulties, achieved many positive results, recovered and developed strongly. However, the world economic situation and natural factors can affect the industry, especially domestic tourists. Therefore, the industry needs to improve promotion, develop diverse tourism products, improve service quality, environmental sanitation and behavioral culture to increase tourist attraction.

Also according to Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho, the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Tourism to continue implementing solutions for sustainable tourism development, step up promotion, and complete tourism infrastructure projects in U Minh Thuong, Hon Dat, and Kien Luong. In particular, Phu Quoc will host the APEC 2027 event, which is a great opportunity to develop MICE tourism and promote internationally.

The Provincial People's Committee is committed to accompanying and creating favorable conditions to support the tourism industry, and at the same time requires tourism businesses and the Kien Giang Tourism Association to actively participate in developing the industry. The goal is to build tourism into a spearhead economic sector of the province.
