At Di Yuan Garden, one of the most famous ancient gardens in the center of Suzhou (Jiangsu province), a pomegranate tree over a hundred years old is entering its most beautiful fruiting season of the year. Dozens of red pomegranates are crowded together on the branches, standing out against the dark green foliage and the ancient tiled roof and white lime walls.

Many tourists compare each pomegranate to a red gem attached to a splendid ancient brocade dress of the Jiangnan river region.

Not only in Di Vien, other ancient gardens such as Tang Lan garden, Luu garden or Vong Su garden are also brilliant with the red color of ripe pomegranate season. In each place, pomegranate trees have their own style: there are tall trees standing by the lake, there are small trees nestled in stone pots, but all give off fragrance, dyeing the ancient space red.
These days, it is not difficult to see long lines of tourists posing for photos under pomegranate trees, in the gentle autumn sunlight in Suzhou.

On Chinese social media platforms, “Suzhou pomegranate season” is becoming a hot topic, with thousands of photos capturing the rustic yet sophisticated beauty of these ancient gardens.

Visitors can easily travel to Suzhou by high-speed train from Shanghai, which takes only about 25 minutes. From Suzhou Railway Station, famous ancient gardens such as Di Yuan or Liu Yuan are located in the central area, convenient to travel by bus or taxi.
The ideal time to admire pomegranate season is from late September to mid-October, when the fruit is ripe and the weather is cool, with beautiful light for photography.
In Chinese culture, the pomegranate tree is considered a symbol of abundance and prosperity, because it contains many seeds, symbolizing the reunion of children and grandchildren.
In Suzhou, the ancient pomegranate trees are not only a natural heritage but also a part of the soul of Jiangnan culture - a land that has captivated many literati and writers.
