Godzilla (1954) re-released in the US
The movie Godzilla Minus One is set in Japan after World War II, when Godzilla appeared and put the country in danger. This is an ambitious project of Japanese cinema, when it once again revives on the screen a metaphorical symbol - the loss and pain that the post-war generation in Japan had to endure and rise up.
Previously, the movie Godzilla Minus One had its premiere in the land of the rising sun on October 18. On November 3, the movie will be officially shown nationwide. Toho International will distribute the movie in the North American market from November 1. This will be the 37th movie in the long-standing franchise that American audiences know.
Last week, the Japan Society of America offered a free screening of Ishirō Honda’s first Godzilla film, released in 1954, to commemorate the monster’s appearance and to remind people of its postwar allegorical significance. The free screening was to promote Godzilla Minus One , which opens in North America in early December.
