Dr. Kohli says there are two good times to shower for health: before sunrise – after brushing your teeth and having a bowel movement, and around sunset – before going to bed.
Studies have shown that evening is the most popular time to shower, followed by early morning.
Researchers say that morning showers help people with joint pain relax their joints, reducing aches and muscle tension throughout the day.
A quick morning shower can also increase blood flow and help you feel more alert.
Conversely, to improve sleep quality, research published in the sleep medicine journal Sleep Medicine Reviews indicates that taking a bath 1-2 hours before bedtime helps you fall asleep faster and improves sleep quality .
Taking a shower close to bedtime helps improve blood circulation from the core of the body to the extremities, thus cooling the entire body and preparing it for sleep.
The ideal temperature of bath water
Taking a warm bath close to body temperature—around 37.8 degrees Celsius—will help reduce stress and relax muscles and nerves. This will also make it easier to fall asleep.
However, one should avoid pouring water directly onto their head while showering. Dr. Kohli also noted that one should not shower immediately after eating, according to the Hindustan Times.
