Over the past two months, free classes taught by students have attracted many students in Dong Thap province.

On weekends, disadvantaged students will go to the Student Startup Club of Dong Thap University (Cao Lanh district, Dong Thap province) to learn swimming, English and handwriting.
All classes are taught by students of Dong Thap University and are completely free.
Lessons from reality
There are three classes that run regularly every week. Swimming classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays, taught by physical education students. Writing classes are held on Saturday mornings by elementary school students. On Sunday mornings, students learn English, taught by English students.
Nguyen Pham Ngoc Thao, a student majoring in English at Dong Thap University, shared: "The purpose of these classes is to allow students who do not have enough financial resources to attend. We can train them in knowledge from basic to advanced. In addition, students who are interested in these subjects can also attend to practice their skills.
After more than two months of operation, the students generally attended school regularly. There were days when some students were absent, but they were always enthusiastic and eager to respond to the activities we offered. Through these classes, we also had the opportunity to practice our skills on the podium."
Nguyen Kieu Diem, a third-year student of the Foreign Languages Department at Dong Thap University, said she was very happy and excited to teach the students. "I feel this is a very special activity. Through teaching, I have gained more experience and lessons for myself in the future teaching process," Kieu Diem said.
More knowledge and skills
Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem, a parent in Cao Lanh, said she learned about the free classes through her child's homeroom teacher and sent her child to attend.
"Learning to swim is very important, so I take my child to learn. Swimming helps my child become more confident, eat well, sleep well and feel more comfortable. The teachers here teach and guide the children very enthusiastically," Ms. Diem commented.
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Yen (3rd grade student) said that she really enjoyed attending the classes because she made new friends and was taught by many teachers. When studying, the teachers encouraged us to speak up, she would praise us and give us gifts to encourage us. Studying here, I have more knowledge to be more confident in my studies."
According to Mr. Nguyen Tri Tuc - Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Dong Thap University, teaching young children will help students improve their teaching skills, practice communication skills and handle pedagogical situations so that they will not be surprised when they go to practice. For students, they will experience a new environment, have fun and communicate in English comfortably," Mr. Tuc assessed.
Student Support
Mr. Nguyen Tri Tuc said that Dong Thap University's Student Startup Club supports students with teaching locations and equipment, and local students will be able to study completely free of charge.
"The students come to teach voluntarily, but the club still sends part of the teaching fee, as a small joy to encourage them," said Mr. Tuc.
