In order to help patients manage personal information, medical examination results, diagnosis, treatment, care and other relevant information during the treatment process at medical facilities, many hospitals across the country have been returning electronic medical records and a variety of online medical services on Zalo.
The implementation of electronic medical records is an important task in the digital transformation of the health sector in Vietnam, not only for the Ministry of Health but also for local leaders. According to Mr. Ha Anh Duc, Director of the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health, according to the Government's request, by September 30, all hospitals nationwide must implement electronic medical records. Data as of September 19 shows that about 566/1,700 hospitals have completed the implementation of electronic medical records.
Deploying electronic medical records brings many benefits to both patients and hospitals. Patients can easily check medical examination information right on their phones through applications selected by the hospital, and do not need to bring paper records when going for follow-up examinations. Results are often returned sooner than paper records, reducing the patient's travel time. For hospitals, electronic medical records also reduce printing costs, storage operating costs, personnel costs, etc.
Anticipating the wave of digital transformation in healthcare in general and building electronic medical records in particular, many hospitals across the country have quickly integrated the electronic medical records model to improve hospital operational efficiency.
Phu Xuyen General Hospital is one of the units that built Zalo Mini App - a sub-application on the Zalo platform, to support digital transformation activities at the hospital. Deployed and developed since December 2024, Zalo Mini App Phu Xuyen General Hospital supports patients in making appointments, returning medical examination results, patient records, asking for information from doctors...

Ms. Dao Thi Nga, Head of Information Technology Team, Phu Xuyen General Hospital, shared: “Previously, patients had to wait and line up early, sometimes 3-4 hours in line even though the hospital only opened at 7:00. Since the hospital deployed many support services on the Zalo Mini App platform, patients only need to book an appointment online from home and arrive 15 minutes in advance. Thanks to that, we do not need many staff on duty to manage the flow or handle the large number of patients arriving in the morning.”
Some hospitals and medical centers across the country have also deployed the form of returning electronic medical records (returning medical examination results online) on the Zalo platform such as Hoai Duc General Hospital, Luc Nam Medical Center, Minh An Hospital... In 2024, the rate of online medical examinations reached 6% at Hoai Duc General Hospital (1,431 online visits/total 23,981 visits). This number increased to 10% in the first 2 months of 2025 (844 online visits/total 8,434 visits).
