Quality of education
According to Hoang Quoc Tuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, the digital platform will clearly support teaching and assessment in the online environment, while also allowing access to a wealth of knowledge from various sources, without being limited to a fixed curriculum.
Digital resources also meet the requirements of educational innovation and access to advanced educational standards. The Department has increased investment and supplemented information technology equipment for schools.
To date, 100% of educational institutions have fiber optic internet connections and computers for management and administration; 100% of schools use management software.
With the motto "The application of information technology and digital transformation in education and training must be student-centered and teacher-centered," the province promotes scientific research at educational institutions, focusing on finding practical and effective solutions for real life, creating a dynamic and creative environment, and fostering a passion for learning and exploration among students.
At the 15th Lang Son Provincial Youth and Children's Innovation Competition, the research project "Application of 3S technology in building zoning and landslide warning maps in Lang Son province" by students Nguyen Trieu Vy and Nguyen Khanh Ngan (Chu Van An Specialized High School, Dong Kinh Ward) excellently won second prize with positive evaluations regarding its feasibility.
Through documents assessing factors contributing to landslides in the watershed, such as geology, forests and vegetation cover, slope, rainfall, etc., the research team has initially developed a landslide risk zoning map and proposed landslide management solutions.
“The locality will conduct communication, career guidance, and orientation to help students choose combinations of basic science subjects, preparing them to create a workforce for scientific research as well as developing applied science. The Department also organizes scientific research at educational institutions, especially at colleges and vocational schools, and encourages the scientific research movement according to the Government's program,” said Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province.
Shortage of manpower and facilities.
The qualifications of computer science teachers in the province are uneven, with some not meeting the job requirements well. In addition, there is a shortage of computer science teachers and IT staff, especially at the preschool and primary school levels.
"Our Tan Van Junior High School only has one teacher with specialized training in computer science. Due to the limited human resources, this teacher has to be seconded to many other schools in the surrounding area."
"In addition, while teachers at the school have implemented electronic lesson plans, due to limited social funding and the school's insufficient internal capacity to provide enough televisions and audiovisual equipment for all classrooms, the needs and quality of the lessons have not been met," shared Ms. Ly Phuong Thao, the school principal.
According to the Lang Son Provincial Department of Education and Training's report summarizing the digital transformation for the first six months of 2025, funding for maintenance, upgrading, equipping with additional equipment, and allocating computer rooms and rooms for teaching IT-based lessons is still insufficient in many remote educational institutions.
Many schools (mostly preschools) either lack computer rooms or have very few, insufficient for teaching and learning computer science and foreign languages.
In some schools, the fiber optic internet and mobile network infrastructure are unstable.
According to Mr. Pham Ba Hong, Principal of Bac Son Town Junior High School in Bac Son Commune, the school's computer classroom has an area of 45 square meters , which does not meet the regulation of 60 square meters , as the school was built a long time ago. The number of computers is also only sufficient for half the number of students in a class.
"Many students are very interested in computer science and technology, but they only have access to these subjects at school because their families are poor and cannot afford to provide them with the necessary digital learning resources at home," Mr. Hong further shared.
For many years, Lang Son province has incorporated the STEM-Robotics-AI education program (a curriculum combining science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to create robots and artificial intelligence) into its curriculum, receiving very positive responses from students and teachers.
However, due to limited facilities, the implementation of this program in the disadvantaged areas of Lang Son province remains restricted. Many schools in the province's particularly difficult communes can only afford to rent equipment and teaching materials for students whenever there is a provincial or district-level exam.
“Seeing the students’ passion, our team of teachers, through our own efforts, established the school’s robotics club. To date, the students have won many awards at the district level. This has greatly encouraged both teachers and students at the school,” said Mr. Ly Van Tho, Principal of Thien Hoa Secondary School, Thien Hoa Commune.
The education sector in Lang Son province has developed numerous solutions and is determined to fully meet the practical needs of educational management and teaching activities. Accordingly, the work of disseminating information, raising awareness and responsibility regarding the application of information technology and digital transformation in education and training is prioritized; and cooperation with businesses, organizations, and information technology associations is being strengthened.
“This cooperation will help us enhance the information technology application capabilities of our management staff, teachers, and employees in the education sector, thereby developing a high-quality workforce. In addition, we are also mobilizing all resources to acquire more IT equipment and computer labs to support teaching and learning in educational institutions throughout the province,” said Comrade Hoang Quoc Tuan.
