Tien Giang province has 3 typical ecological regions: freshwater ecosystem, mangrove ecosystem and alum ecosystem. Each region has its own identity, contributing to the creation of rich tourism products.
Among them, the most prominent are Thoi Son eco-tourism area with images of rowing boats, green gardens and river specialties; Dong Tam Snake Farm - a place to preserve and research hundreds of snake species and Tan Thanh beach - a marine eco-tourism destination that is increasingly attracting visitors with clam raking activities, fresh seafood cuisine and pristine space.
Tien Giang is not only famous for its natural landscape of river gardens, but also possesses many unique historical and cultural relics such as: Rach Gam - Xoai Mut historical victory relic site, Vinh Trang pagoda, Royal Tomb...
These are important destinations that contribute to recreating history and preserving the cultural identity of the Southern region. According to statistics, from the beginning of 2025 to now, Tien Giang has welcomed about 700,000 tourists, including more than 300,000 international visitors. Total tourism revenue reached about 480 billion VND, showing that the tourism industry is recovering and developing strongly after the interruption due to the pandemic.
In addition to infrastructure investment, the province also focuses on strengthening regional connectivity, especially with Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces. Many tours and routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - My Tho - Cai Be, Mekong tour My Tho - Ben Tre or Dong Thap Muoi eco-tourism route are being effectively exploited, bringing both economic value and contributing to preserving local cultural identity.
Tourism businesses also actively cooperate through conferences, seminars, and tourism promotion programs to diversify products, improve service quality, and promote the image of Tien Giang tourism closer to domestic and foreign tourists.
With diverse potential, efforts of the government and support of businesses, Tien Giang tourism is on the way to strong transformation, aiming to become a key economic sector and an unmissable destination for tourists when coming to the Mekong Delta.
EXPLOITATION OF CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL VALUES
In recent years, the province has focused on investing in infrastructure and promoting tourism, but most activities are still focused on eco-tourism and river tourism. Cultural and historical tourist attractions have not been effectively integrated into linked tours. Some places lack interpreting services and practical experiences, leading to low attraction for tourists, especially young people and international visitors.

In the context of the tourism industry increasingly requiring innovation, creativity and close connection with local identity, Tien Giang province is recognized as a land that fully converges the conditions to develop heritage tourism combined with cultural industry.
Recently, at the Consultation Workshop on promoting the value of historical and cultural relics in tourism development in Tien Giang province organized by the Provincial People's Committee on April 29, Associate Professor - Doctor Huynh Quoc Thang, senior lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association, said that building a tourism development strategy in this direction not only contributes to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, but also creates a driving force for sustainable socio-economic development for the locality.
Vice Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Dieu said: In recent times, Tien Giang has tried to promote historical and cultural values in tourism but has not yet fully exploited its potential, nor fully exploited the role of businesses and people in developing tourism associated with historical and cultural values. In the coming time, Tien Giang will have breakthrough, specialized, and thoughtful solutions in terms of infrastructure, science, as well as digital transformation applications in tourism development in the province associated with historical and cultural values. The province will continue to pay attention to the role of historical events and relics, conduct more in-depth research on Tien Giang people and land to have effective long-term solutions and projects to attract businesses, investors and promote the community role of the people. Tien Giang commits to creating the most favorable conditions for tourism investors to make long-term investments closely linked to local and business interests. |
One of the important groups of solutions he proposed is to diversify and improve the quality of tourism products. Accordingly, Tien Giang tourism needs to create a system of routes and tourist attractions associated with tangible and intangible cultural heritages such as: Communal houses, temples, ancient pagodas, traditional craft villages, revolutionary relics and folk arts, especially the art of Southern amateur music - an intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO. Tourism services also need to be standardized and improved in quality to meet the increasingly high and diverse needs of tourists.
According to Associate Professor - Doctor Huynh Quoc Thang, Tien Giang needs to focus on training a team of tour guides at tourist sites, artisans, designers, and media workers - people who not only understand local culture, but also have the ability to create attractive tourism content and apply modern technology. It is necessary to create a separate tourism brand identity for Tien Giang, from which to organize special events and domestic and international promotion programs.
In particular, to fully exploit the province's tourism potential, he proposed the need to strengthen cooperation and regional-industry linkages. Tien Giang cannot develop tourism alone, but needs to closely connect with localities inside and outside the Mekong Delta region, especially Ho Chi Minh City. Tourism is not only about sightseeing but also a journey to discover memories, culture and the connection between people and nature.
The preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage values were also of interest to experts at the recent workshop. According to Dr. Mai My Duyen, a lecturer at Tra Vinh University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture, the preservation of intangible cultural heritage needs to be placed in the natural and social living environment of the community. According to Dr. Mai My Duyen, heritage is only truly alive when it is maintained through daily activities such as singing, festivals, religious activities or teaching between generations.
One of the important solutions is to link conservation with socio-economic development. ICH can become an important resource in developing community tourism, creating unique cultural products such as: handicrafts, traditional cuisine or folk art performances, contributing to building the cultural brand of Tien Giang land.
