On the evening of February 4th, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep signed a document from the National Civil Defense Steering Committee addressed to the People's Committees of 21 coastal provinces and cities from Quang Ninh to An Giang, requesting their attention and guidance in responding to strong winds at sea.
According to the official document, in recent days, due to the influence of a cold front and the Northeast monsoon causing strong winds and large waves at sea, two fishing vessels with 20 crew members sank in the La Gi sea area ( Lam Dong province), resulting in one death and 19 people being rescued safely.
To mitigate damage from the current strong winds at sea and subsequent cold fronts and northeast monsoon winds, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense requests the People's Committee of Lam Dong province to direct relevant agencies to implement solutions to ensure the safety of vessels operating in the La Gi sea area.
In addition, coastal localities (including Ho Chi Minh City) are closely monitoring strong wind warning and forecast bulletins at sea, promptly notifying captains and owners of vessels currently operating or preparing to operate at sea to proactively take preventive measures, adjust production plans, and maintain communication to handle any adverse situations that may occur.
The National Steering Committee for Civil Defense requires localities to maintain strict duty rosters and regularly report the situation to the steering committee (through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment).
