Proposal to award the title of Meritorious Artisan to 11 artisans

On the afternoon of June 10, Mr. Dinh Van Thieu - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting of the Council for considering and awarding the title of Meritorious Artisan in the field of intangible cultural heritage.

According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, based on the Plan of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on considering and awarding the title of People's Artisan, Meritorious Artisan in the field of intangible cultural heritage for the 4th time, Khanh Hoa province has 11 individuals who are artisans holding folk knowledge of exploiting and processing Khanh Hoa bird's nests who submitted applications for consideration and awarding the title of Meritorious Artisan. Through comparison with the criteria of the Government and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on considering and awarding the title of Meritorious Artisan in the field of intangible cultural heritage, the artisans all met, and some even exceeded the prescribed criteria. The profiles of these artisans have been consulted with the community where the artisans reside; publicly posted on the Official Gazette Center and the Khanh Hoa Provincial Electronic Information Portal to solicit public opinion. In particular, 11 artisans participated in the process of building 2 dossiers on the intangible cultural heritage of knowledge of exploiting and processing Khanh Hoa bird's nests; the intangible cultural heritage of Khanh Hoa Bird's Nest Festival has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage.

After reviewing each specific case, the Council members all highly appreciated the values, folk knowledge, as well as the responsibility and affection of the artisans towards the intangible cultural heritage that they are holding. The artisans are not only talented and highly qualified in the profession of exploiting and processing bird's nests, but also actively passing on the profession to the younger generation. Through voting, 100% of the Council members agreed to prepare a proposal for the specialized Council of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to review before submitting it to the State Council.
