Preparing for the new school year
As the back-to-school season approaches, the market for school supplies in the province is bustling with a wide variety of products and many attractive promotional programs.
School supplies are in high demand.
In late August, major bookstores like Fahasa Kien Giang and Dong Ho were bustling with shoppers. Many bookstores and bicycle shops proactively prepared a wide variety of goods and implemented promotional programs to stimulate consumer demand and meet the shopping needs of parents and students. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tan, owner of a stationery store in Giong Rieng commune, shared: “This year, we imported more types of notebooks, pens, and school bags with beautiful designs and reasonable prices. In addition, the store is also offering discounts of 10-20%. In the last days of August, the number of customers buying school supplies increased.”
This year, the prices of school supplies are diverse, ranging from affordable to high-end, suitable for parents' budgets. In particular, many stores are launching promotional programs with discounts of 10-60%, leading to a surge in demand. Products from domestic businesses such as Hong Ha notebooks, Thien Long pens, and Ben Nghe pens dominate the shelves. Not only are they reasonably priced and of stable quality, but Vietnamese products also win over customers with their improved designs and styles. Many parents express their confidence in choosing Vietnamese products, saving money while supporting domestic products. Ms. Nguyen Thi My Nha, residing in Rach Gia ward, said: “Every year I prioritize choosing Vietnamese school supplies. My child likes them because of the beautiful designs, and I feel secure because the prices are reasonable and the quality is guaranteed.”

Electric bicycles are on the rise.
Contrary to the booming market for school supplies, many bicycle shop owners in Rach Gia ward are reporting a decrease in customers this year. Despite importing many models of student bicycles priced from 1.5 to 3 million VND, with diverse and convenient designs, sales remain slow. Mr. Le Van Duy, the owner of a bicycle shop on Tran Phu street, admitted: “Compared to previous years, the number of customers choosing traditional bicycles has decreased. Parents, especially high school students, are increasingly favoring electric bicycles because they are convenient and suitable for long-distance travel. While a few years ago I sold 3-5 bikes a day, now I only sell 1-2.”
Electric bicycles are designed in a variety of styles and modern models, integrating many smart features, with prices ranging from 7 to 15 million VND. This is the dominant segment, making it difficult for many traditional bicycle shops to sell their products. Mr. Nguyen Van Hau, residing in Rach Gia ward, whose child is about to enter 10th grade, said: “Previously, I used to buy traditional bicycles for my child to go to school, but this year I chose an electric bicycle because it's more convenient. My child has to travel far to school, and riding a traditional bicycle is tiring, while an electric bicycle is faster, lighter, and the charging cost is not high.”
