According to historical sources, on March 30, 1945, in the face of the rapid change in the situation, comrade Vo Nguyen Giap decided to establish the provisional People's Committee of Cho Ra district - the first district-level revolutionary government in the country during the height of the resistance against Japan in 1945. The provisional People's Committee of the district was chaired by Mr. Hoang Van Dam, Vice-chaired by Mr. Hoang Van Phu, and members were Mr. Trieu Van Hien and Mr. Chu Khac Xung.
Mr. Hoang Thang Bac, Na Khuoi village, Cho Ra commune, still remembers what his father told him: That day was a big festival. People from everywhere flocked to Lung En (now Phieng Chi), everyone was excited but did not know the reason. When we arrived, we learned that today was the announcement of the establishment of Trung Vuong district - the provisional People's Committee. The ceremony was protected by a guerrilla team. When Uncle Giap announced the establishment of the provisional government, the young people in the village eagerly raised their hands to join the revolution.

The establishment of the Cho Ra district government contributed significantly to the victory of the anti-Japanese national salvation movement, leading to the August 1945 General Uprising, taking power into the hands of the people; leaving behind many valuable lessons on leading the people to defeat the government, protecting the revolutionary government as well as building political organizations, building local armed forces...
In 2025, the new Cho Ra commune was formed from the merger of Thuong Giao and Dia Linh communes and Cho Ra town, with an area of 92.81 km², 31 villages, and more than 14,500 people. The new Party Committee with 1,528 members united in action according to the motto "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Creativity - Development", creating a solid foundation to promote socio-economic development.
Cho Ra agriculture is being restructured towards commodities, increasing the area of fragrant green squash from 47ha to 100ha by 2025. With 8 3-star OCOP products such as green squash, honey, sticky rice; developing models of fattening buffalo and cows, raising fish in Nang River cages, raising spotted deer... creating a big change in hunger eradication and poverty reduction.
Mr. Ma The Toan, Phieng Chi village, Cho Ra commune, said: After learning about the cage fish farming model in Thac Ba, Hoa Binh lake, I boldly invested in farming on Nang river. Currently, there are 10 households in the area, each household raising 2-3 cages of catfish, red tilapia, grass carp, common carp, etc., bringing in high income.
In addition, revenue from forests has become a new pillar, with 598 hectares of planted forests during the term, reaching 197% of the plan, bringing in a total income of 16 billion VND/year. Forest coverage reached 80%, both protecting the environment and creating sustainable livelihoods.
Currently, the commune has over 98% of the population participating in health insurance, nearly 1,000 exported workers, 226 temporary houses have been demolished or repaired. Education, health care, and culture have improved with upgraded schools, and cultural and sports activities have been maintained.
Mr. Duong Ngoc Thuyet, Secretary of the Party Committee of Cho Ra commune, said: In the new term, the commune strives to increase budget revenue by over 10%/year, average income reaching 60 million VND/person; expand fragrant green squash over 120 hectares, maintain 6 OCOP products, duplicate high-tech agricultural models; eliminate 100% of temporary houses; build Cho Ra into a dynamically developing locality rich in identity.
Today's Ra Market is not only a merger of administrative units but also a living symbol of the glorious past, of new spirit and new motivation.
