As the new day began in Ba Dinh Square, at 5:50 a.m., the solemn flag-raising contingent marched in formation from the right side of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum to the front of the flagpole, accompanied by the stirring military music of the marching song "Marching Under the Military Banner".
Leading the flag-raising procession was the Victory Banner. Following behind was the honor guard, composed of soldiers from the 275th Regiment (Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Command). The ceremonial formation consisted of 37 people in white uniforms. The Victory Banner led the way, followed by 34 honor guards, symbolizing the 34 first soldiers of the Vietnam Liberation Propaganda Team, the predecessor of the Vietnam People's Army.
At the base of the flagpole, upon the signal, a soldier of honor is hoisted the flag to the sound of the national anthem. The flag is then slowly raised to the top of the 29-meter-high flagpole in front of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.
The image of the flag fluttering over Ba Dinh Square on the first day of September left a sacred and proud impression on thousands of people who were present to directly participate in the commemoration, parade, and march marking the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which will take place at 6:30 AM on September 2, 2025. The Vietnamese national flag, flying bright red in the free sky of the country, symbolizes the enduring existence of the Fatherland in the hearts of every Vietnamese citizen.
The flag-raising ceremony at Ba Dinh Square is a national ceremony of Vietnam. Since May 19, 2001, the ceremony has been held at Ba Dinh Square every morning, regardless of weather conditions. This is a very important national ceremony, attracting many Vietnamese and international visitors, especially during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and major national anniversaries.
