Transportation infrastructure opens up new opportunities for development.
According to the plan, on December 19, 2025, Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport Project will conduct its first test flight.
Speaking at the 22nd session of the State Steering Committee for National Key Projects and Transport Sector Projects on December 9th, Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), stated: Currently, the two connecting routes to Long Thanh Airport have been completed. Calibration flights at Long Thanh Airport have been completed, and simultaneously, all equipment on runway 1 has been installed and inspected, ensuring readiness for the technical flight on December 19th.
Besides runway 1, taxiways, and aprons, which have completed preparations, the apron area adjacent to the passenger terminal will also be completed by December 15th to serve the technical flight on December 19th.
Also at this meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that ministries, agencies, and the managing agencies of the component projects, especially ACV, strictly implement the directives of General Secretary To Lam, urgently review the remaining tasks, and develop a specific and detailed plan to ensure the operation of technical flights at Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 on December 19, 2025. At the same time, they should continue to complete the construction items and organize trial operations to ensure commercial operation in early 2026.
Along with the Long Thanh Airport Project Phase 1, by the end of 2025, several other key transportation infrastructure projects in the province, such as the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, will be largely completed and put into operation in 2026. These are vital transportation routes connecting Dong Nai, Long Thanh Airport, Ho Chi Minh City, and the Southeast region. This will not only boost socio -economic development but also open up new development opportunities for Dong Nai province.
The Provincial People's Committee has requested relevant agencies to study and supplement the construction of a road connecting ASEAN countries (Thailand - Laos - Cambodia) through Hoa Lu International Border Gate with Long Thanh Airport, Phuoc An Port and Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port.
Maximizing the advantages of Long Thanh Airport.
Previously, during his visit to the Long Thanh Airport project site in November 2025, General Secretary To Lam stated that Long Thanh Airport would only truly be effective when transportation, services, urban areas, tourism, and logistics were integrated in a synchronized and modern manner. Ministries, sectors, and localities should focus on three major groups of solutions, including solutions to ensure multimodal infrastructure connectivity between the sub-areas and central urban areas of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai. He also stressed the need to accelerate progress and complete the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway, and the Ring Roads 3 and 4 of Ho Chi Minh City as soon as possible.
To concretize the directives of General Secretary To Lam, in early December 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to implement the directives. Specifically, regarding the tasks related to the development of key transportation infrastructure, the Provincial People's Committee requested the acceleration of the progress of projects including: the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, the Dau Giay - Lien Khuong Expressway, the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Roads 3 and 4, the North-South High-Speed Railway, the Suoi Tien - Provincial Administrative Center - Long Thanh Airport Metro Line, and the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Railway.
Furthermore, the plan includes the synchronized development of transportation routes connecting Long Thanh Airport with localities in the Southeast region, key economic zones, and the formation of new urban centers (Airport City model). It also involves updating, supplementing, and adjusting the spatial development orientation and economic corridors in the national master plan, national sectoral plans, and regional plans. Specifically, it proposes expanding the scope of the Southern economic zone to areas connected to the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 4, the Moc Bai - Ho Chi Minh City Expressway, the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh Expressway, and the Long Thanh - Ho Tram Expressway. It also suggests expanding the Southern economic zone to areas surrounding Tri An Lake to create a development orientation for ecotourism in Dong Nai province, contributing to the formation of an industrial-logistics-tourism service linkage chain. Simultaneously, it suggests researching and developing tourism resources such as forests, rivers, waterfalls, and historical relics of high value.
