National Assembly and People's Council elections: Unity and consensus in the consultation process for nominating delegates.

On December 10th, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong City held its first consultative meeting to agree on the structure, composition, and number of residents and employees of agencies, organizations, and units nominated to run for election as deputies to the 16th National Assembly and as deputies to the 17th Hai Phong City People's Council, for the 2026-2031 term.

The conference heard the Standing Committee of the City People's Council announce the National Assembly Standing Committee's projected allocation of the number and structure of National Assembly deputies for the 16th term in Hai Phong city; and the projected structure, composition, and allocation of the number of candidates nominated for election to the City People's Council for the 17th term, 2026-2031.

The Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong City presented a proposal outlining the proposed structure, composition, and number of residents and workers in the locality from agencies, organizations, and units nominated to run for election as deputies to the 16th National Assembly, based on the National Assembly Standing Committee's projections; and a proposal outlining the proposed structure, composition, and number of individuals from political organizations, socio-political organizations, social organizations, people's armed forces units, state agencies at the same level, and public service units, economic organizations, and subordinate administrative units in the area nominated to run for election as deputies to the Hai Phong City People's Council, 17th term, 2026-2031.

The conference promoted a democratic and objective spirit, seriously researching, considering, discussing, and agreeing on the number, structure, and composition of candidates nominated for the 16th National Assembly and the 17th City People's Council, for the 2026-2031 term.

Accordingly, the total number of candidates nominated by central and local agencies is 41 (9 from the central government and 32 from local governments). Compared to the number of delegates to be elected, the number of people nominated at the first consultative conference (from both central and local governments) is 2.16 times greater.
The total number of candidates nominated for the 17th term of the City People's Council was 159. The number of representatives to be elected was 85. Compared to the number of representatives to be elected, the number of nominees at the first consultative meeting was 1.87 times greater.

Acknowledging the spirit of solidarity and unity among the delegates attending the conference, the Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, Pham Van Lap, requested that the delegates continue to promote this spirit of solidarity and unity in subsequent consultative conferences and spread it throughout the community, so that the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and the election of deputies to the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term will be successful.
