Every Mid-Autumn Festival, despite the abundance of electronic lanterns and expensive imported toys on the market, colorful cellophane paper lanterns still hold a special appeal. Through many meticulous handcrafted steps, traditional Mid-Autumn lanterns always evoke emotions and showcase the beauty of Vietnamese culture. Traditional lanterns, especially those using candles, always evoke feelings and reflect the cultural beauty of the Vietnamese people. And the image of carrying lanterns, enjoying the feast, and gazing at the moon has been preserved through generations in various ways.
Vietnam.vn invites you to admire the Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns this year through the photo series "Mid-Autumn Lanterns" by author Pham Minh Giang. The author submitted this series to
the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest, organized by
the Ministry of Information and Communications .

As a Vietnamese person, you'll undoubtedly feel the joyful atmosphere that comes with the Mid-Autumn Festival. And during this time, the image of brightly colored lanterns under the golden moonlight is indispensable.

The Mid-Autumn Festival holds great significance as it is considered a time for family reunion and a children's festival, with beautiful lanterns contributing to the tradition. For the Chinese, lanterns are hung in front of their homes, symbolizing good fortune and peace. Some people make floating lanterns, write their wishes on them, and release them into the river to carry their prayers far away.

For Vietnamese people, Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns are primarily made for children to play with on the night of the festival. With diverse shapes, vibrant colors, and mainly handcrafted from bamboo and rice paper, and decorated with incredibly delicate embroidery, traditional Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns symbolize prosperity and family happiness. In 2024,
the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest will continue to be organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists on the website.
