On the morning of December 1, Dr. Nguyen Duy Quyet, Nghe An Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital, said that the unit had just performed emergency microsurgery to reattach the right ankle of a man who had an accident while cutting grass.
Previously, on November 27, a 43-year-old man (in Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province) was cutting grass with a machine when the blade broke and flew into his leg. His family bandaged the wound and took him to Nghe An Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital.

The patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of severe injury, traumatic shock, right leg was almost severed, sharp cut, tibia, fibula, all blood vessels, anterior tibial nerve and some leg tendons were severed.
After assessing the wound condition, the patient was quickly treated with intensive resuscitation, fluid infusion, blood transfusion, pain relief, testing...
Doctor Nguyen Duy Quyet - the main surgeon who performed the right ankle reattachment for the patient said that the surgical team performed microsurgery to reconnect the patient's severed blood vessels and tendons. Then, they sutured the damaged extensor tendon and performed many other complicated operations to reattach the foot.
After more than 4 hours, with the efforts of the surgical team, the patient's right ankle was successfully reattached.

According to Dr. Quyet, the golden time to "save" a patient's severed limb is within 6 hours. If left longer, the tissue will begin to die, and the reattachment will be difficult to succeed.
After surgery, the patient is currently conscious and has stable hemodynamics. The feet and toes are warm and pink and can move slightly. The patient is being monitored and given special care in the Intensive Care Unit.
In the coming time, the patient will have to undergo physical therapy to be able to move almost as before.
Doctor Nguyen Duy Quyet recommends that when an accident causes a limb to be severed, first aid should be given to stop the bleeding immediately on the spot, and the patient and the severed limb should be taken to the nearest medical facility for first aid; then the patient should be quickly transported to a specialized hospital for limb reattachment.
