The Sa Huynh Cultural National Special Relic includes 6 locations: Thanh Duc, Long Thanh, Phu Khuong, the Champa relic complex, An Khe lagoon and An Khe creek, with the protected area of zones I and II being over 500 hectares. According to the assessment of archaeologists, if the Sa Huynh Cultural National Special Relic is invested, restored and promoted well, it will be fully recognized as a World Cultural Heritage with all the necessary elements to express its outstanding global values. After being recognized as a special national relic, Quang Ngai is gradually promoting and researching the work of building a world heritage profile. Specifically, it will be submitted to UNESCO for inclusion in the World Heritage List, which will be expanded in 4 areas: Sa Huynh (seaport), Ly Son (island), Binh Son (ancient ship cemetery) and Son Ha (mountain valley) with outstanding global value from a historical and aesthetic perspective, creating a diverse appearance of the cultural ecological complex of the Sa Huynh Cultural residents.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Van Liem - Member of the National Cultural Heritage Council, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Archaeology Magazine shared that the presence of the ancient Sa Huynh Culture in Quang Ngai is truly a strength, not found everywhere. Quang Ngai needs to effectively implement solutions to preserve, restore and promote heritage associated with tourism development. In particular, priority is given to research and archaeological implementation at new sites to continue discovering traces of the Sa Huynh Culture that are still underground.

“The heritage of Sa Huynh Culture is very unique and highly aesthetic. Therefore, it is necessary to invest, exploit and sustainably use this invaluable resource, turning Sa Huynh Cultural relics into a regional and international tourist destination. The National Cultural Heritage Council is always willing to support and join hands with Quang Ngai province to protect and promote the value of the Sa Huynh Cultural heritage treasure worthy of a special national relic,” affirmed Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Van Liem.

According to Prof. Dr. Truong Quoc Binh - Former Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Cultural Heritage, up to now, Vietnam has nearly 4,000 national relics and nearly 200 special national cultural relics, including Sa Huynh Cultural Relic. To turn the Sa Huynh Cultural Relic into a World Cultural Heritage in the near future, Quang Ngai needs to innovate management work, pay attention to investment, and develop a master plan for the protection and promotion of relic values. The work of protecting relics needs to go hand in hand with bringing benefits, creating conditions, and developing the livelihoods of people in the relic area, associated with tourism development. The responsibility of protecting and promoting the value of relics is not the responsibility of all levels and sectors, but the common responsibility of the whole community. “In the coming time, we will be responsible for coordinating with the provincial authorities to build the dossier as well as participate in the protection so that Sa Huynh Culture will soon become a world cultural heritage,” said Mr. Binh.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Hoang Tuan emphasized that the preparation of a dossier for the recognition of a world cultural heritage is both an opportunity and a challenge for Quang Ngai province. Therefore, it requires a focus on research and consultation with central ministries, branches, scientists and experts in the field of heritage. In order to have a legal basis and create favorable conditions for Quang Ngai to carry out the work of preparing a dossier for the Sa Huynh Cultural Special National Relic to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration, approval in principle and completion of the dossier for UNESCO to recognize the World Cultural Heritage, the Provincial People's Committee has sent a document requesting the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to pay attention to guiding localities on the process, procedures and content of preparing a dossier for the relic and world cultural heritage according to regulations.
