Known as “the most majestic pass in the world”, the Hai Van Quan historical site is located on the top of Hai Van Pass - on the border of Hue and Da Nang. This site was built in 1826 under the reign of King Minh Mang. This was a place of extremely important strategic and military importance under the Nguyen Dynasty.
Before 2021, the items of this famous relic were in a state of serious degradation. Thua Thien Hue Province and Da Nang City agreed to spend 42 billion VND from the budget to restore the only national historical relic in Vietnam under the management of two localities.
After more than 2 years of restoration, from August 1, Hai Van Quan relic site opened to welcome visitors for free. On the first day of opening, Hai Van Quan welcomed hundreds of visitors to visit and admire the relic site located on the majestic Hai Van pass.

According to Deputy Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center Phan Van Tuan: Hai Van Quan relic will be open for free until the two localities agree on the construction of a suitable ticket price list. During this time, the parties will also collect opinions from the community to complete the plan and improve service facilities to ensure the best safety for visitors. "Currently, Hai Van Quan still lacks infrastructure to serve tourism . We will try to overcome the shortcomings to better serve visitors," said Mr. Tuan.
The restoration of the relic has so far basically ensured the restoration and renovation of some of the original construction items of the relic such as the "Thien ha de nhat hung quan" gate (facing Da Nang), Hai Van Quan gate (facing Thua Thien Hue), the headquarters, and the Great Wall system.

"The unit will base on survey records and archaeological documents to develop a suitable restoration plan for the remaining intact construction items to preserve the historical military architectural value of the Hai Van Quan relic. For items that do not have documents or research on the terrain, there will be a restoration plan later.
The materials here are mainly bricks and stones. During the restoration process, we actively searched for these materials in neighboring localities to harmonize the overall structure, comply with regulations and principles of preserving and restoring relics. The weather and climate here are very complicated, so infrastructure and public water sources have not been provided. We have to use spring water to serve the restoration activities. If we go into exploiting Hai Van Quan relic, we need to have a project to design a complete and unified infrastructure such as parking lots, toilets, etc. to ensure conditions for visitors," said Mr. Phan Van Tuan.
During a trip across Vietnam with her family, Ms. Thanh Ha from Nha Trang felt lucky to be one of the first visitors to visit the Hai Van Quan relic after a long period of restoration. Ms. Ha expressed that Hai Van Quan has a wide view, from the construction, visitors can admire the breathtaking beauty of Hai Van Pass, of the blue sea between Hue and Da Nang.
Ranked as a National Monument in 2017, Hai Van Quan is located in Lang Co town, Phu Loc district (Thua Thien Hue) and Hoa Hiep Bac ward, Lien Chieu district (Da Nang city), about 90km south of Hue city center and about 28km north of Da Nang city center.
