Low academic standards, how is the training quality?

By early June, nearly 30 universities had announced admission scores based on transcripts. Some schools had scores ranging from 15 to 18 points per combination.

According to the decision to recognize the university admission scores for the April 2024 period of Hoa Binh University, the university admission scores based on high school academic results (transcript scores) for the school's 21 training majors range from 15 to 17 points, except for the health sector.

Of which, the standard score for 3 majors: Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Fashion Design is only 15 points. Thus, candidates only need 5 points/subject to be admitted to university.

Not only Hoa Binh University, some other universities also have similar admission scores based on transcripts.

Binh Duong University of Economics and Technology has a standard admission score based on high school transcripts in 2024 from 15 - 22 points, except for health majors.

Gia Dinh University has set the early admission standard score for 49 majors at 16.5 points. Candidates only need to achieve 5.5 points in their academic records to be eligible for admission to the school.

Some universities have a standard score for considering transcripts from 6 points/subject such as: Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance with 18 points for all majors; Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Hong Bang International University, Dai Nam University... have a standard score ranging from 18-24 points.

In recent admission seasons, the trend of universities is to use many admission methods to create conditions for candidates. Among them, the admission method based on academic records is the preferred choice of many candidates.

However, the fact that schools set low entrance thresholds raises concerns about the quality of university admissions and training.

Professor Pham Tat Dong said that university expansion of input is a trend that has been implemented by countries around the world for a long time, however the training process and university output are very strict.

Therefore, according to Professor Pham Tat Dong, the quality of training and the innovation trend of universities are important requirements. If university training follows the old direction, unemployment after graduation is inevitable.

Faced with the fact that many majors of some schools have low benchmark scores based on transcripts, many opinions have proposed that there should be a certain minimum score, especially for private schools, to avoid admitting too poor candidates to university, ensuring the quality of human resource training.

Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training only regulates the threshold to ensure input quality (also known as the floor score) for teacher training and health care majors that issue practice certificates. Other training majors are regulated by training institutions.

Candidates please note, from July 18 to 5:00 p.m. July 30, you can register, adjust, and add admission wishes an unlimited number of times.

According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates use the granted account to process information (enter, view, edit) of candidates' information on the General Admission Support System.

Registration of admission wishes for majors/programs must be done online on the System or on the National Public Service Portal.
