Officials in Chiềng La commune are promoting and encouraging the La Ha people to actively participate in environmental protection.

Arriving at Huoi Long village, Chieng La commune on a weekend, we found the villagers cleaning up the environment, collecting garbage, and clearing the road leading into the village. Mr. Lo Van Yen, Party Secretary and Head of Huoi Long village, Chieng La commune, said: The village has 192 households, mainly of the La Ha ethnic group. Thanks to the attention and support of the Party and the State in building concrete roads, the villagers are very happy. The village management board regularly propagates and mobilizes people to collect and sort waste at the household level and collect pesticide packaging after use... Currently, all families have built pens to raise livestock and poultry, collect livestock waste, and utilize it for composting to fertilize crops, thus not causing environmental pollution; Every weekend or to celebrate holidays and important events, the villagers come together to clean up the environment, hang up the national flag, creating a joyful atmosphere and strengthening solidarity within the village.

Leading us along the clean, concrete path to her house, lined with blooming flowers, Ms. Lo Thi Dinh from Huoi Long village shared: "Thanks to the village management's awareness campaign, I've tidied up my house and planted more flowers in front of the gate. Besides that, I participate in community cleanup activities in public areas; I collect and dispose of waste properly; and I've built pig and cow sheds far from my house, so as not to pollute the living environment of my family and the villagers. Seeing the residential area becoming cleaner and more beautiful, we all feel encouraged."

Women of the La Ha ethnic group in Chieng La commune collect and sort waste, protecting the environment.

With the attention and support of all levels and sectors, and the joint efforts of the ethnic people in the commune in general, and the La Ha ethnic group in particular, the new rural development program in Chieng La commune has achieved many positive results. Infrastructure continues to receive investment; many rural roads have been paved, creating favorable conditions for travel and socio-economic development. Electricity, clean water, schools, cultural centers, and basic welfare facilities meet the needs of the people.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng La commune, affirmed: Through the commune's propaganda campaigns, the implementation of the new rural development program has created clear changes among ethnic minorities in the commune in general, and the La Ha ethnic group in particular, regarding environmental protection. Especially, the people have switched from letting livestock roam freely to keeping them in pens; strictly adhering to the collection and treatment of household waste… contributing to maintaining the environmental criteria in the new rural development program.

The La Ha people of Chieng La commune launched a campaign to clean up the environment.

However, environmental protection and rural development in Chiềng La commune still face some difficulties, such as: Limited investment resources for rural development, while the capital needed to complete the criteria remains high. Awareness of environmental protection and landscape maintenance among some residents is not uniform.

Joining hands with the local authorities to achieve the goal of becoming a new rural area in the 2026-2030 period; in which, by 2030, the rate of household solid waste collection will reach 90%; the La Ha people in Chieng La commune will continue to participate in environmental protection, beautifying residential areas, building a bright, green, clean, and beautiful rural landscape; building a healthy and civilized living environment, contributing to maintaining the environmental criteria in building new rural areas.
