- Increasing cases of dengue fever
- Ca Mau tightens dengue fever prevention
- Don't be subjective with dengue fever peak season
The erratic weather has created favorable conditions for Aedes mosquitoes to thrive. In addition to transmitting dengue fever , Aedes mosquitoes are also the agents that transmit chikungunya. In mid-June 2025, localities developed a plan to eradicate larvae and mosquitoes based on the community in the first round. However, the disease still exists and many new outbreaks have appeared. The local health sector is preparing to launch the second round of this campaign, calling on the community to join hands to cut off the source of disease transmission.
Dr. Vo Be Ba, Deputy Director in charge of operations at the Tran Van Thoi Regional Medical Center, said: “The dengue fever epidemic in the Tran Van Thoi area is increasing. As of the 32nd week, the entire area has recorded more than 90 cases. The outbreaks are being handled in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health . In this campaign to eradicate larvae and mosquitoes, we have closely coordinated with departments, branches, organizations and local authorities, focusing on propaganda and mobilization to raise people's awareness and proactively prevent the disease.”
Tran Van Thoi Regional Medical Center directs medical stations and collaborators to coordinate with forces to visit each household to propagate and guide people to handle waste tools, water containers, and items containing mosquito larvae in and around the house. Especially households with young children will be instructed on the signs of dengue fever so that they can go to medical facilities for early treatment. Pay attention to checking and treating the environment in boarding houses, vacant lots, abandoned houses, etc. Because these are places where mosquito larvae are born and are easily missed.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vu, Rach Ruong B Hamlet, Tran Van Thoi Commune, said: “There are more mosquitoes during the rainy season, so my family is proactive in preventing dengue fever. At home, I use mosquito repellent incense, and I always clean the area around the house, covering unused water containers to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.”
Since early August 2025, the Nam Can area has simultaneously deployed the second round of mosquito larvae eradication campaign in all communes. Hamlets and hamlets with high numbers of cases and old outbreaks have been selected as pilot locations. Along with that, communication has been stepped up, such as hanging banners in crowded places with the theme "Actively eliminate mosquito larvae breeding grounds to prevent dengue fever". During the campaign, delegations went to each household to propagate and distribute documents instructing on how to prevent dengue fever. After that, medical staff came to check and monitor the density of mosquito larvae and mosquitoes in households to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign.
Medical staff distribute documents and guide people on how to prevent and control dengue fever.
Currently, the chikungunya epidemic is on the rise in some countries in the region, especially in China. This increases the risk of the disease entering our country through immigrants carrying the pathogen. Although Vietnam has not recorded any cases of chikungunya in the community, however, because the Aedes mosquito (tiger mosquito) is in its peak breeding season, the mosquito density is high in many localities. Along with that, it is the summer season when many tourists travel to and from Vietnam, so there is a high risk of chikungunya entering Vietnam and spreading rapidly in the community.
In the face of the above situation, the Department of Health has directed localities to strengthen disease surveillance in the community, tourist attractions and medical facilities. In particular, cases entering from epidemic areas must be promptly detected early and effective prevention measures implemented. Dr. Nguyen Quan Phu, Deputy Director of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, said: “Aedes mosquitoes are the agents that transmit dengue fever and chikungunya. Therefore, to effectively prevent the disease, we need to implement measures to kill larvae and mosquitoes. The community-based campaign to kill larvae and mosquitoes is a measure to help prevent the source of disease transmission, requiring the active participation of the whole community.”
The community-based mosquito and larvae eradication campaign has brought about many positive results. However, the proactiveness of each individual and family in disease prevention and control is a prerequisite factor, helping to control and prevent the source of disease transmission effectively and sustainably./.
