Coach Shin Tae-yong is targeted to replace Patrick Kluivert. |
As the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) considers personnel changes, coach Shin Tae-yong - who previously led "Garuda" - is considered the ideal solution if Patrick Kluivert is fired.
In September, Bola reported that the Korean strategist expressed his willingness to return to the U23 team and the Indonesian national team, but with a special condition. Through interpreter Jeong Seok-seo, Mr. Shin affirmed that PSSI must give him full authority to make professional decisions if the two sides reunite.
Mr. Shin requested full authority in selecting players, building training time fund, arranging training schedule and especially the right to choose the assistant team as desired. The 53-year-old coach emphasized that only when he has enough authority can he fully implement the strategic vision to develop Indonesian football in the long term.

Coach Shin’s statement quickly created a wave of heated discussion in the Indonesian football community. Many fans believe that the above requirements are completely reasonable for a head coach, because it reflects the independence needed to implement tactical plans.
In 14 2026 World Cup qualifying matches (from round 1 to before welcoming the wave of naturalized players), Coach Shin helped Indonesia achieve a 42.9% winning rate with 6 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses.
Under the Korean strategist, the team from the archipelago plays pragmatically but tightly. “Garuda” scored 26 goals and conceded 17, a much better performance than Kluivert’s successor.
After being terminated by Ulsan Hyundai, Coach Shin is looking for a new destination. This will help speed up the contract negotiation process if PSSI chooses to reunite with the Korean coach.
