According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple is planning an "overhaul" of iPadOS 19, making it "more like macOS".
"I'm told this year's upgrade will focus on performance, multitasking, and app window management—aiming to make the device behave more like a Mac. This has been long-awaited, with professional iPad users constantly asking Apple to make the tablet more powerful," Gurman wrote.
This is a long-awaited change. According to 9to5Mac , the iPad's hardware has outpaced the software's capabilities for at least four years now, and it's certainly one of the top complaints from tech enthusiasts.
Not only iPadOS 19, Gurman previously cited internal Apple sources revealing that the company is about to undergo the biggest software "overhaul" in history.
Specifically, Apple will change the basic appearance of the operating systems on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The source revealed that the update makes the different software platforms at Apple look more consistent, including the style of icons, menus, applications, windows and system buttons.
"Today, macOS, iOS, and visionOS have different apps, icons, and window styles. That makes switching between devices frustrating," Bloomberg 's reporter wrote.
According to Gurman, the changes will come in the iOS 19 and macOS 16 updates. The software will mark the biggest upgrade for the Mac since the Big Sur operating system launched in 2020. Meanwhile, for the iPhone, this will be the biggest "overhaul" since iOS 7 in 2013.
