From reality…
The generaleducation program is divided into two stages: basic education stage (from grade 1 to grade 9) and career-oriented education stage (from grade 10 to grade 12).
In the basic education stage - Primary and Secondary School (from Grade 1 to Grade 9), students are equipped with basic knowledge and skills; forming and developing key qualities and core competencies; preparing the mindset to adapt to rapid and multifaceted changes in future society.
The career orientation education stage - high school level (from grade 10 to grade 12) is the stage to develop capacity according to the strengths and aspirations of each student, ensuring that students access careers, prepare for quality post-secondary education or participate in working life.
The 2018 General Education Program at the high school level also stipulates that, in addition to a number of compulsory subjects and educational activities, students can choose subjects, topics and study topics that suit their interests and career orientation. So in reality, which direction are students and their families choosing their careers?
As a 10th grade student at Phan Dinh Phung High School (Hanoi), Tran Quynh Chi is still quite uncertain about choosing a career for the future. Having a natural talent for music and having learned piano since childhood, at the present time, the career that Quynh Chi wants to aim for is to become a piano teacher.
Unlike Quynh Chi, Pham Thiet Thanh (Experimental High School, Hanoi) is in the final stage of preparing for the high school graduation exam and entering university. “I currently do not have any specific plans for my future career, but I want to study tourism and travel management and pursue jobs related to this industry,” Thiet Thanh said. He said he chose a career based on his own abilities, because in his opinion, pursuing jobs that have the potential to develop will have more opportunities and conditions to develop his abilities.
Ms. Pham Huong Lan, whose child is studying at Ta Quang Buu High School (Hanoi), shared that her child is in grade 11, so there is still time to continue to seek advice and choose a career for the future. She also actively seeks out many information channels to accompany her child in the upcoming important turning point. According to Ms. Lan, both she and her child really need career orientation support from experts, teachers... or through reference materials.
